Jones and Smalling aren't average they're just both really inconsistent. Smalling for example was great against Bayern last season against Ribery, Mandzukic, Miuller, Baldy etc... other games he's woeful. With Jones I feel a bit sorry for him as had he been played in position since he signed he would probably be coming on quite nicely as a CB by now. Still rough around the edges but better than he is now. Unfortunately Fergie and Moyes played him at RB and DM to fill gaps and he really hasn't progressed at all.
 
I like Smalling and Jones and Blackett looks quite handy as well. I still think we need a really class experienced CB though to replace Vidic ( as has been stated). You can't let a player like that go and not replace him.

if we get Vidal and a quality centre back before deadline day our team will be pretty damn awesome.

I wouldn't say 'awesome', still look bare on the bench.

As so many in here have already said, if Di Maria is the last signing of the summer then United will absolutely struggle.

If however he's 1 of 2/3 still to come then it's great, they've needed a winger since Ronaldo left and Giggs got old. He adds much needed pace into that team, they were so slow in their build-up play yesterday.

Sign Vidal & Benatia and United are looking good in terms of a first team line-up.
 
Juventus are apparently looking at loaning a couple of players so could this mean they are getting cover for vidals exit?
 
Yes, Man Utd need at least one new CB and a CM but people have to remember that it's hard to attract top-quality players to a mid-table team.
