I think you should watch him play more. The only thing you're partially right on is his heading ability, which he's far from bad at.

I was hugely sceptical about him as a centre forward when he signed but he convinced me very quickly with his performance against City not long after joining. He dominated Kompany which not many strikers have done.

I've watched him plenty thanks. I know you're probably not looking at it objectively as a Liverpool fan but I think you're the first person I've ever heard call him a complete striker. All players can have good games and to be fair to him he did have a good season but his finishing is still so hit and miss to be classed as complete and that's without looking at his all round game which needs improvement to fall into that bracket.

A complete striker would be more somebody like Falcao but we'll just have to agree to disagree.

For you to pick out his finishing ability as a weakness makes me seriously doubt you've watched him much.

And as a Utd fan you're obviously completely impartial when commenting on Liverpool :/ Wouldn't it be nice if people could have a debate without childish comments about bias just because you disagree?

I'm commenting as somebody who watches a lot of football both European and the BPL. I'm not really in the business of commenting along the lines of club loyalties. I clearly didn't say his finishing was bad I said it's hit and miss. Reading and comprehension failure?

My comment about him being a complete forward was a reference to his style of play. He can do a bit of everything. He can lead the line, hold the ball up and bring others into play, he can drop deep if and when he needs to, he can pull wide and he's a huge threat in behind. There is no glaring weakness to his game. That's not to say there aren't aspects that could be improved on.

And I'm not sure why you'd comment on his finishing if it wasn't a criticism.

I find that generally it helps if you read the actual words which are there as opposed to whatever you've done to misinterpret what I said. Hit and miss != weakness - I just don't think his finishing (the main part of being a striker) is good enough to fall into that bracket. It certainly isn't bad but I think it's still pretty inconsistent. A better barometer will be to see how he does this year in front of goal without Suarez. He's the main man up top so if he carries on improving then that's good for your lot and England.

I disagree completely about him being a complete forward and as I say that's the first time I've ever heard it said about him. You're entitled to your opinion though irrespective of how nonsense I think it is.

As I said: agree to disagree. :)

Shaw , Herrera , Di Maria , Blind , Vidal

that would be a pretty insane window

LVG wants to another central midfielder to the squad, with Vidal being his priority. #mufc will present an offer before Sep 1st. [guardian]

You claimed in a previous post that his finishing was average. A striker with average finishing ability is surely a weakness? His goal scoring record, even prior to joining Liverpool and playing out wide, speaks for itself.

You claimed he wasn't that strong and his passing wasn't good enough. I guess you missed him brush Demichelis off the ball and pick out Lambert with a lovely pass earlier tonight?

As I said, the only part of your post that had any credibility was the comment on his heading ability. The rest was nonsense IMO. Technically and physically Sturridge has all the attributes needed. The only area where you can still question Sturridge is his mentality; although he's proven a lot of people wrong on that front he still doesn't have that drive and determination of somebody like a Suarez.

Is that a random list of names in any order or attempting to be the 5 and how you'd line them up?

Vidal as a right sided winger, Di Maria in the middle, Blind right side of midfield and Herrera left side?

The most likely scenario is with the right players on board they go back to a 4-3-3 or some variation. Personally I cba'd with all the 4-3-2-2-3-4-2-1-1 people come up with, it's all a slight variation of 4-3-3, yes sometimes one of the central three plays behind the other two, or ahead with two behind them, sometimes the three upfront or very wide or narrow or whatever..... people need to be a bit less anal about that.

Even if they stuck with a 3-5-2, Blind or Shaw would most likely be played as a right wing back with whoever is best on the right getting the spot longer term. Vidal central and Di Maria as the furthest forward of a central three.

If it was a 4-3-3 you'd have Di Maria wide right or left, Januzaj, Rooney or RVP the other wide spot and RVP or Rooney up top.

Di Maria has a pretty poor right foot, depends how LVG wants to play him, left and hitting the byline crossing more than shooting, or right and cutting inside to cross or shoot.

Both Vidal and Di Maria would be, somewhat wasted as a wingback, Vidal is someone who gets stuck in and is strong defensively and you want him dominating the central midfield to control other teams.

was just the transfers word around Holland is that united scouts have been watching blind and would make sense from LVG's comments about a player can be bought in 24 hours but someone like vidal would be more complicated

The Guardian, Telegraph and Independent all do say the same (the 'reliable' guys) -

Louis van Gaal wants to add at least one central midfielder plus another central defender, with Vidal considered his priority. With the manager having harboured doubts about the Chilean midfielder’s knee injury that caused him to play at Brazil 2014 in a half-fit condition, plus the club’s awareness that Juventus are minded to sell, the strategy will be to try to force Vidal’s sale through for an acceptable price before 1 September.

Juventus want Hernandez so he's an obvious makeweight, surely?

Arsenal fans, Giroud has broken his foot and is out for at least 3 months.

Wonder what striker you'll go for?

It's such a shame that every single year almost everyone except for Wenger know where we need to strengthen and where we are weak. It only takes him 3-4 years to catch up and buy someone where we need it, wooo, then we're lucky if he doesn't buy Santos/Monreal quality in such positions.

Eto'o is probably being told on the phone that Arsenal can afford double the wages Everton can.

Reality is that Podolski's loan or permanent move just got cancelled, maybe Wenger will keep stupidly trying Sanchez there or play Podolski there, or Ramsey. Who knows with that plonker.

The absurd thing is, in not going for a striker to replace Giroud all summer.... that in so many of the biggest games he dropped Giroud, clearly placing no faith in him for those games... How can you show such little faith in Giroud and use a truly woeful Sanogo in such games but also insist on keeping Giroud as a first choice striker. You almost suspect the idiot has gone senile at this point.

Can anyone imagine having such little faith in lets say... RVP or Rooney, that you dropped them in big games for Macheda, then refuses to replace RVP or Rooney despite playing someone so crap ahead of them in important games....
