United now have the most expensive squad in Premier League history:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...expensive-squad-assembled-Premier-League.html

- The current Manchester United squad cost £401.2m to assemble

- Chelsea squad put together for £341.8m, Liverpool £245.8m and Arsenal £209.5m

- The value of United's squad now outstrips their neighbours and defending champions Manchester City, who are worth a collective £344.15m when the transfer fees are added up.

Amazes me there are still major gaps in the squad after such expenditure...

Other clubs are making so many signings that would be appropriate for punts for Man utd to take given their squad quality.

Cambiasso
Fazio
Lovren
Alonso
Dier

3 wood is so out of his depth IMHO.

You want to be taken seriously but come up with the constant cliches that the worst pundits would say...football man? You're now claiming that he can't name players because he hasn't been inside the game? Even though many, if not most of the men in similar roles at other clubs aren't "football men" either. Makes sense.

Because David Gill, who had the role previously... was a football man right... oh wait, no he wasn't.

Real Madrid's president is an ex businessmen, civil engineer, politician.

The people who use the term football man.... well, speak nonsense in general. What was the defence of Mackay... oh right, he's a football man, a family man. Who said this, Redknapp, a complete moron. It's one of these things that people have said for so long they think by itself it makes a sensible argument, it doesn't. Seriously you claimed a man from outside of football would be incapable of naming a target at all. I'm outside of football, if I got employed in that job tomorrow, my current knowledge of player names and who is good or not would literally disappear from my mind, I wouldn't be able to name a target AT ALL.

Either way the idea that transfer targets generally get picked or suggested by presidents/financial officers/whatever their position is called, is stupid to start with, the idea that one of these people is incapable of suggesting a name because being outside of football they have no idea who is good and who is not in football and implying that he might be bad at his job because he can't suggest a name, when clubs spend millions on scouts to find unknowns and compile reports on targets to help managers chose who they want is also daft.

LVG is new to the team, the league and most of the smaller players at the club. He didn't want to spend £30mil on a central mid if it turned out he thought the next Pogba was sitting there ready to be used effectively or brought up from a reserve/youth team.

Everyone else buying big targets had managers in their jobs from last summer, LVG started extremely late in the summer and as such the start of the season was always going to be compromised and his transfers were going to end up being done later in the window if not Jan/next summer.

Lol..what are chatting about? it was an off the cuff remark about how poorly Woodward has been doing. Your'e a nutter. You don't have to have played or been inside the sport to be a football man. A football man just means someone who at least enjoyed the sport and been involved with it whether it's in a playing/coaching role or even just watching/going to games. Woodward doesn't really come across as that sort of bloke. David Gill was definitely a football man, he saw Wenger and knew he would be good for Arsenal.

Get a job in football DM, it's crying out for it. Go prove yourself mate

Erm... Woodward's job isn't to scout players...

That job is on LVG and his staff including Jim Lawlor our chief scout. We don't have a director of Football, and if you look at the vice chairmen of the other teams, and the chairmen, they're all alike, not ex players, or coaches, they're businessmen who started elsewhere.

But you know this yes "football man"?

You obviously didn't read my whole post? I said people who watch a lot of football, go to games and what not. It helps a great deal having someone like that

I'm curious Nick, who would you have UTD sign and sell right now?

It's too difficult to say without knowing how lvg will line up the team.

Then you've git players like Fellaini, 30 million sat there. Do you try to accommodate him? use hhim as a freak show big man up top in emergencies? But ultimately young, valencia, Carrick, clevo, welbeck, Hernandez. The biggest dismantlement ever 2 weeks into a season?

How's signing for Arsenal going?

I'll get the bread and newspaper photo's out when the time is right..like i said, end of this year bud. ;)

I think Fell, Carrick, Valencia and Welbeck are all capable of being decent players for you. Clev, young and hernandez can go though i think..

He seems to be at every game... And probably has been watching them since he first took up a roll within the club.

Or do you know something we don't? Do you personally know him? Spoke with him? Has he confessed it in an interview?

How do you know he's less football inclined than say City's Ferran Soriano, who was Barcelona's economic Vice President and does exactly the same thing Woodward does, business deals...

LVG said himself that he (woodward) hasn't been on the ball...

Do you not remember him saying that?

In signing players, closing deals, not scouting. Shred him all you like for not closing deals (which is all hearsay anyways, no confirmation on who we've missed). However claiming he's not a football man, so therefore can't advise on which players to sign, is ridiculous, that's not his job.
