Letting cleverly go, considering we only have Fletcher/anderson/herrera otherwise must mean we have midfield boost lined up??

Indeed. Thats what I think. We were already light in midfield before Cleverley left...unless of course LvG wants to promote some youth players and persist with them.

I realise that lots of people love Kagawa, but IMO, for his own sake, he needs to go. He isnt good enough to play for Man Utd. In the last 18 months I cant remember him doing anything of note. Fergie didnt rate him (even though he bought him). Moyes didnt rate him. LvG doesnt rate him. That's 3 managers who dont play him as an automatic first team choice. That's enough to convince me that he just isnt good enough.

With regards to Cleverley I wish him all the best with his career with Villa and perhaps Keane could will help him find his "balls".

On the subject of balls, all our midfielders seem to be toothless and I think we need to bring in players who at least have confidence and want to fight for the ball. In all the games this season so far, I feel that the players look nervous and scared. They pass the ball sideways and don't seem to know what to do with the ball. If in doubt, pass the ball forward, to your own shirt...even I know that.

The strange thing about Fellaini is that this guy does have a lot of fight in him and would be perfect as the "enforcer", but even he has been reduced since arriving at Man Utd. Is someone spiking their drinks before they come on the pitch?

We buy players and they gradually lose confidence, become toothless or get injured. What the hell is going on?

According to Chelsea TV, Costa missed training as a precaution, but should be fit to face Everton. No word on what the injury actually was - hamstring could be just speculation.

Eva must have kissed it better :p I'd take that over horse placenta any day of the week!

Why?

Loads of teams succeed without a front three with wide players.

Di Maria was arguably Madrid's best player last season, and usually did not play wide.

Because real have ronaldo and bale playing wide on the wing? I forgot we have wingers capable of scoring 22 goals (bale) and 51 (ronaldo). He's more a poor man's ronaldo thsn he is a ball winning central midfielder.

reals front 3 is actually effective, has pace and power in abundance. Mata, rvp, rooney just doesn't work.

Lvg is comparing di maria to robben, not arturo vidal and where does robben play? iI'm pretty sure lvg wants to deploy

I bet that's the last time you believe a Telegraph journo. ;)

You can get to the back of the Eva queue but it's going to take a very long time. :p

I never said he was a ball-winning central midfielder. Also, if you read the entire LvG quote, he compares him to Robben in that he can play wide or inside.

The key problem at United, more than anything else, is that you are incapable of getting the ball from defence to attack. There is no point having world class wingers if you can't get them the ball. Put Di Maria in midfield and he is incredibly good at carrying the ball forward. Put him wide, and he'll barely get a chance to do anything.

Yea inside as in behind a 1 up front .

that's why we need 3 center mids to get the ball from defence and pass it on. The last thing you need is di maria trying to dribble it from in his own half all the time. On the counter yes, but you want him running at their defenders so he'd b have to be in front of the ball and not behind it...

Have you watched him in the last year? Admittedly, he had Xabi and Modric behind him, but he was unbelievably good at getting the ball on or around halfway and driving forward.

Edit: Here you go, scroll down and look at the pass map v Levante. He played box to box for Madrid. http://www.fourfourtwo.com/features...nt-england-bound-castaway-key-man-real-madrid

Where would Mata play then? You need him in the team, surely?

Yea presumably it works okay in Spain and then you pass to ronaldo who does the rest.

A, we don't have ronaldo.
B, no matter how bad Reals defense is, ours is much worse.
C, ronaldo scores a lot makes use of forward balls taking pressure off defense.
D, Reals cms are also better than ours

and this is it. the line up robbo posted has 'carrick' as a the shield/destroyer/holder united's defence would get bladdered every counter

A. I don't get your point?
B. Yes, but I assume you won't play Di Maria at centre back
C. Yes, but Ronaldo also gets forward balls from Modric, Di Maria, and Alonso. You have capable players up front and nobody who can get the ball to them
D. And yet Di Maria still successfully found a place at CM in Madrid (see above link, copied here: http://www.fourfourtwo.com/features...nt-england-bound-castaway-key-man-real-madrid)

Those aren't arguments for putting Di Maria further upfield. That's just stating the obvious.

Mata, Rooney, RVP, Janu, Welbeck are all capable fowards. What seperates Di Maria is he can play in the middle of the park and not look out of sorts. It's like the lesser of two evils..you need someone who can take out a few people in the middle of the park and create a two on two for Mata/Rooney..

Mata can't play every game. If we sell kagawa we have no amc.

Don't know if you've noticed but playing 3 players up front with so little pace between them with no pace on the wings hasn't been working too well.

You'll get that in a 5-3-2 from Rafael and Shaw bombing on. Yes, it leaves you exposed at the back, but that's a problem with your poor defence/DMs, and isn't relevant to the Di Maria situation. You'd be no less bare at the back playing 4-3-3, as your defensive players are still pants.

Carvalho, if we get him, would be fine. Carrick isn't that bad in a pure defensive sense, he'd do a job there, if needed.

Not surprised you and Nick are on the same page though. :D

You are wasting your time, trust me. :o
