He was technically challenged but he would've been one of the first names on the teamsheet against the top sides for me. Every team needs a player like him and at the moment ours is Henderson who, in my opinion, is just a far better player than Kuyt ever was :)

Didn't stop you giving him dogs abuse every week :p

Why can that only be a good thing, remember when the same was said about Chamakh and more. He's a free transfer so it's cheap... nope it was high wages and we got saddled with him for years, not good enough to start, not good enough to be really good cover and not the right type of player. He scored some goals but we didn't win titles because of those goals and we had 4mil a year going out on him rather than a player that is actually good enough.

Another player to make up the numbers is fine IF you have great players already. Welbeck may be even worse than Giroud, signing a crap player for £85k+ a week to be short term back up to a striker who himself isn't good enough to be starting can't only be good, it's anything but good. It's a panic buy that will once again leave us with long term financial consequences.

The team is crying out for more players with Wilshere's current drive, the ability to take the ball from midfield, driver forward and then produce crosses/passes into strikers or attackers we have already who can finish. Welbeck is yet another player who has no final ball, is pace and no control or quality. He's absolutely not what the team needs at all. He'll get a few goals, but he won't be the difference between the team being good or great, he'll be yet another average(at best) player who prevents us actually signing a great player.

I 100% agree with everything you've said.

Welbeck is another Chamakh, another Gervinho, another drain on our financial resources. I'd rather give Poldi a chance up top on his own for the rest of the season that sign that worthless bag of balls.

I'm not sure what you mean by that Frank. At the time of the 2 deals I wouldn't say you could say Torres was any more expensive than Di Maria. He was arguably the best striker in the world at the time after all. And you can't compare them based on how they turned out as we don't know how Di Maria will turn out.
He was pretty gash in pre season and he's had bad games but he's nowhere near as bad as pigeon makes out, many a game he came on when we began losing control of the game for 5-10 mins in the second half and completely changed it back in our favour. Although Brendan never identifies when to make a change either apparently :D

I like him. A lot of his work goes unnoticed but he's a crucial part of the squad.

I think fans underestimate how hard it is to play as the wider midfielders in a 4-3-3 and he and Henderson are perfectly suited to that role. Henderson gets more recognition because he has more freedom of the 2 to get forward but Allen's nearly as important to us IMO.

I thought his ability cost us against teams that parked the bus or against teams when we had more possession but when the roles were reversed and we needed someone to run themselves in to the ground he was the man.

Rightly or wrongly I'm not sure I'll ever take to Allen although I can't see him playing much this season so I might warm to his contributions more. Big upgrade on Adams though :)

Think Welbeck will come up trumps at Arsenal, great at linking play with the midfield - all he's got to do is slide in Ramsey, Ozil, Cazorla et al, and he does that well.

looks like Tesco have bailed us out

Not seen much drive from Wilshere lately, he has gone backwards if anything.

Welbeck has to be an April fools joke ill planned. It's not that he's just not good enough but we already have a few all ready like him.

For all the haters of giroud he gets the job done.

The amount of people texting and tweeting in to the BBC that United are going to go bust/fall foul of the FFP regulations due to the amount of money we've spent is funny. All those idiots have apparently forgotten the enormous Chevrolet, Adidas and AON deals that have been signed.
