Transformers ! :D

EXACTLY, I haven't seen it yet but i know Michael Bay's work so i know exactly what to expect.

Do people expect performances out of Godfather, and the plot of Usual Suspect? Think about it, its a film about giant robots from outer space fighting, directe by a guy who did The Rock, Bad boys I & II, Armageddon. Some of the biggest blockbusters of all time and damn good at it. This is his bread and butter and he doesn't tried to hide it. Personally I think he's the best director for summer blockbusters, Spielberg doesn't compare :p (He makes things too mellow dramatic)

I'm sure heaps of people knew what to expect from Bay (he is notorious in the business, after all) - I don't know anyone who was expecting flipping Shakespeare. It's just that films aren't necessarily going to be enjoyable even if you know what to expect. Like a lot of people, I was expecting a cheese-fest with lots of action, BUT I hoped I wouldn't think it was bad like his previous movies. I thought he could make this one movie work. I was soo wrong. See I like cheesy action films, but Bay's work, as usual, isn't amongst them *shrugs*. It just seemed so mind-numbingly boring to me. Maybe I've watched too many films.

Haha, spot on! :D [/QUOTE]

This isn't spot on at all. For you to suggest that the reason people were disappointed with this film was because they were expecting dialogue or a storyline of the highest order is crazy.

It's an above average action flick, nothing more. Absolutely nothing about it makes it stand out from any other generic action movie. If you were being honest with yourself you KNOW it could and should have been SO much more than it was. Some of it was exciting, some funny, a little too much of it was cringe-worthy and cheesy.

Massive opportunity wasted this, a real shame. They were clearly too caught up in restarting the franchise (toys, books, McD etc etc) that they had to make it a 12A so that it could be accessible to the most amount of people.

One thing I didn't like about Michael Bay is that when he was asked why he'd put flames on Optimus he replied "because I wanted them"

Some people just expect too much from films somethimes, especially films based on games or toys.

I thought the film was one of the best films (entertainment wise) I've seen in years. I can't remember the last time I came out of the cinema with as big a grin on my face.

For the record, I never watch Transformers as a kid and never had any of the toys.

Also, I've never seen a bad Michael Bay film. I like it so much I'll be going to watch it again.

Just got back from seeing this and it was amazing. Brought back many childhood memories!

Best visuals i've seen to date yet :

Some people on here seemed to be expecting that.. DreXeL just set them straight!

Agreed. But the average action movie is enjoyable, and this Transformers was pretty damn fun to watch.

Like what exactly? An action movie is always going to be an action movie! As for Transformers, what made it stand out from other action movies, was, well.. the clue is in the title.

Don't assume i'm not being honest with myself. It was a film about children's toys made by Michael-'omgboom!!1'-Bay. It was the best it ever could have been. Sure, a different director could have done it different, but at the end of the day it was going to revolve around making the robots look cool, and the fights look cool. What else could you have?

What the hell are people expecting from a Michael Bay action movie?!

If it were another director, I'd maybe have expected more (depending on who it is) but I think Michael Bay did the best he could have done with it, considering how his movies usually are.

For a Micheal Bay film it was excellent but that's it, doesn't excuse it from being an all round average film. The excellent action sequences got balanced by the poor dialog and story. I really hoped for a better writer cos that would have made it even better.

Odd question here, but how are camera angles/sequences like in CGI scenes?

I find that a lot of good CGI in movies is completely spoiled by totally ridiculous and impossible camera angles and movements. For example, the camera is frequently doing impossible "flybys" or shooting from a seemingly impossible position. This for me really kills any sense of immersion or believability in the CGI.

I think the question should be, what are people expecting from anything about "The Transformers".
Its purpose in life has been from day one to sell toys, the cartoons didnt make any sense, the film wiped out the entire pre 1984 or something product line simply to introduce a new toy line up.x

I went to go see this and had seen a lot of reviews in the paper today, being quite low just presumed it was critics being critics, I am quite good at switching my brain off for action films, and loving transformers throughout my childhood, even though I am only 22.

What can I say what a movie, as an action film it is fantastic, not too much techy stuff in there just loads and loads of action. The CGI was superb as everyone has commented, bit annoying with the close ups but can only presume this was too cut costs down and make sure the CGI looked as real as possible throughout the whole film. Loved the way all the little cogs etc moved.

Now it was a little too long but this character development will hopefully just cut it out and mean straight down to business in the sequels,(galvatron/ultra magnus/hotrod please :D ) It did have some cringeworthy cheesy moments but this added to it for me as it was cheesy in the 80s and should always be cheesy, it is just transformers. Bay done well.

Final note Megan Fox just wow :D

and some quotes

I wasn't really expecting much, but thoroughly enjoyed it, although I am disapointed they didn't get "you've got the touch" in there anywhere

Now, I've just found my old Transfomers the Movie on video from about 15 odd years ago, still a great film...

Do I ruin my childhood memories by watching this?

No way the movie actually isnt that bad, just dont go back and watch the series, that will actually ruin your memories of childhood.

Just back from seeing it at the Metro Centre.

When I first found out that Bumblebee wasn't a Beetle, I was upset.

But I shouldn't have been; he was completely and utterly USELESS! Just like I remembered him to be.

Breaking down, being captured, almost dying; useless! :D

Good action sequences, plenty of eye candy and hey, big fighting robots have got to be good.

Shaky cam, poor dialogue for the human characters (the transformers lines were spot on) and many poor/needless characters in general did detriment from the plot.

But all in all a very worthwhile watch. It got applause at the end which doesn't happen much.

Bar 2 scenes in the film the special effects were faultless. It was absolutely superb, though Michael Bay really started to **** me off with his constant panning shots around the city.

What did you think of it on the whole then Penski?

Well I have already arranged to go and see it again.

To be perfectly honest, I was really worried that it would be a shambles (namely down to who was directing it...Bay has always been more miss than hit) and have been watching things unfold on Jalopnik all this time.

With regards to the dialogue, as I understand it, the guy who plays Sam has a liking for ad libbing...And it shows; Bay should have reined him in a bit. A couple of his 'flourishes' too many were left in.

CGI never felt overly intrusive. Details such as the dirtying of prime and so forth after a lot of time on the road were a nice inclusion. :)

CGI/live action integration was also commendably high.

One of my friends bemoaned the slapstick and comedic elements of the film but to be honest, I loved them; bee-otch, the garden scene, Frenzy as a whole...Plus plenty of sly references to earlier TF universes.

PS: Grimlock demands future inclusion!

Amazing film, and I think one of the first films to show an AC130 gunship in action.
I smiled more at the A-10s...Wrong attack pattern though.

If Galvatron shows up, Hot Rod has to as well....

Not today, Galvatron!
