Travellers descend on Asda car park and refuse to move in stand off with police

Gypsy funeral near mine last weekend, me and the wife went out for a meal at a local restaurant / pub and it had been closed for their own safety. Apparently lots of stealing going on in local Tesco too so the best solution is obviously close that as well. They literally do whatever the **** they want with little to no chance of consequence. I have no issue if they abide by the law and clean up after themselves, sadly this is rarely the case.

"A police force that sparked fury after telling residents to have empathy with a group of 200 travellers they are trying to evict from their leafy village has said the Tweet was supposed to show impartiality.

Locals living in well-heeled Long Ditton - where homes are valued at £1million - say that they are at their wits' end after a mob of 200 travellers decamped to their recreation ground from nearby Cobham.

Council bosses in Cobham obtained an eviction order from court and residents in Long Ditton are now pursuing the same action.

But Surrey Police has been blasted after local force Elmbridge Police suggested residents have sympathy for the travellers on social media, writing 'imagine how upsetting it would be, being uprooted every few days'.

Other Twitter users immediately pointed out that moving around to different locations was part of the traveller lifestyle. It comes as travellers camps have also been set up in Ham, west London, and Ringmer, East Sussex.

This evening the force said its Tweet was supposed to encourage impartial behaviour and encourage 'both sides of the discussion'.

‘We appreciate the concern it has raised, given the impact unauthorised encampments have had on the country, however we serve all communities equally and will not tolerate discriminatory behaviour,’ Elmbridge Police wrote.

The Tweet sparked outrage, with one user telling the force to 'stop siding with the travellers' and another suggesting the force should 'stop being politically correct'."

You just couldn't make it up, what total bull, is this a deliberate intent to wind their paymasters up? The police are becoming a waste of tax payer's money in so many ways.

And the more likley that communities will take action on their own.

The "Contract" that citizens have with the state whereby Citizens should not take the Law into their own hands is utterly dependent on the Citizens having confidence that the State will do the job for us.

If the state persistently and repeatedly fails to discharge its duty to us then the whole system risks breaking down.

P-Bombs are likley only to be the beginning.

Dream on, check your surroundings, this is England, there is as much chance of the citizenry taking
action on their own, as there is of the entire population of North Korea converting to Mormonism.

Get used to it Cliffy boy, it will NEVER be the case, just as those that could, and should, bring it to an end, NEVER will.

.

Think "Catastrophe Theory"

If "English/British" people DO eventually get wound up enough to take a more direct approach. It will likley get a bit bloody..!

beginning to see the benefits in privatising them and having some company hire a bunch of hardcases do deal w/ crap like this instead of the gutless apathetic pussies that seem to be taking over the police.

Wouldn't it be easier to just send them back to Ireland? We gain nothing from them being here.

The Irish don't want them, and their guarda are far more forceful when it comes to removal. Even after Brexit the Irish and British have free movement between countries so until our councils/police start doing their jobs there is nothing to stop this continuing. You'll also find they all own houses in Ireland and come to the UK purely to take as much as they can.

The Irish hate them. The garda however actually have stones when it comes to dealing with them though often the locals get around to it first.

They're probably better protected here than they are in Ireland, makes no sense.

How would Ireland or another Country react with a small minority group from the UK decided the travel around their country and do whatever they wanted, it wouldn't last.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/20...criminal-offence-stop-travellers-moving-onto/

Dozens of Conservative MPs including several former Cabinet ministers are demanding that the Government makes trespassing a criminal offence to stop travellers moving onto private land.

The MPs, led by Mark Francois and John Baron, have written to Theresa May and Housing Secretary James Brokenshire urging them to make “acts of deliberate trespass a criminal offence”.

They say that people “have a right to expect that the law should be applied equally and fairly to all and they want to see the authorities given additional powers to deal with unauthorised encampments, which are an increasing problem, particularly in the spring and summer months”.

The news has emerged days after a police force in Surrey failed to take action to remove a group of travellers who had set up camp illegally in a park in Thames Ditton.

The group were eventually evicted by the local council after three days, but left behind significant damage and mess, including "rutted" football pitches from drag racing cars, two dogs, and a water-logged cricket pitch, forcing this weekend's games to be cancelled.

The council also hired a specialist cleaning company to carry out a "cleanse" of the the park's playground following their stay.

Would be helpful if only to give the police fewer excuses to not take actions, I mean the group mentioned above were openly breaking laws but the police did nothing... without a camp there if some random person were to drive onto the local playing fields and thrash their car around, damaging the pitch etc.. in full view of locals and the police were called then they'd deal with it pretty quickly. Insert travellers into the mix and they have a much higher threshold before they'll get involved in any lawlessness and will just claim it is all "a civil matter"....

Get rid of that excuse, make trespass/unauthorised encampments a criminal matter (even though mass trespass already is) and remove the potential ambiguity that politically correct senior police officers can use as an excuse to continually treat these people with kid gloves.

My local Asda has a 3 hour limit for free parking, after which you get charged. Perhaps they should enforce those charges on the caravan owners. The money might even be enough to pay for the clear up operation when they move on

The mayor of fricking Bedford told the village my parents live in something similar, in person when he visited for some event. He got told to sod right off.

They were staying about a mile or so down the road and things were being stolen from gardens. Rubbish dumped everywhere etc.
