Travellers descend on Asda car park and refuse to move in stand off with police

With a lot of the travellers coming over from Ireland, after Brexit will they be sent packing?

Brexit doesn't really have an impact on whether they'll be allowed to live here etc...

People from Ireland can live and work in the UK just as people from the UK can live and work in Ireland.

What a surprise 5 pages in and the right wing hate brigade are out in full force. Couldn't care less if these people have no where to live. They'd let them die on the streets without the NHS if it was up to them.

And the communist warriors are out in force too. See how easy it is to throw someone into a group if they dont agree with you......

Also... if they dont contribute to the NHS why should they have access to it..... extreme right winger signing out (im not but you'll accuse me of being one so might as well get it out the way)

Good news, they've left now, however they have complained to the police that somebody was using a drone to drop water balloons filled with **** on them, ahh the wonders of modern technology xD

It annoys me somewhat that the police will probably go after whoever did it if they can find out, yet they had no interest in dealing with scumbags breaking into a car park, assaulting/threatening staff, etc >.>

Your annoyance is understandable, but surely the inaction of the Keystone Kops came as no surprise did it?

Frankly the police are more likely to pursue criminal charges against someone using a slur about them on social media than actually prosecute the travelers for mass trespass, criminal damage, making violent threats etc..etc...

I'm pretty sure they could get them under "breach of the peace" too given the way they often kick off.

A slight change to the statute book with regard to trespass could make these incidents trivial to police from a legal point of view, it amazes me some party has not used the promise of such a change as a vote gatherer.

This recent article suggests how police are allocating supposedly scant resources and finance:

"Police are wasting thousands of hours dealing with ‘hate incidents’ which are too trivial to be classed as crimes

The reports included someone alleging racism when a man’s dog barked at them, a mother angry after her children fell out with others playing in the street and a man who claimed a tennis umpire had made racist line-calls against his daughter.

There were also people offended by newspaper cartoons and even a woman in Wiltshire who got upset when someone on Facebook said she looked liked Peter Griffin from the TV cartoon Family Guy.

Official figures show that police don’t catch four out of five robbers and burglars

David Spencer of the Centre for Crime Prevention think-tank said: ‘While the fact that many people feel it is right to report ‘offensive’ social media posts to the police illustrates much that is wrong with modern society, it is even more worrying that our police seem willing to prioritise these cases over real crimes.

‘It is time for a return to common-sense policing where officers are out on the street protecting the public and preventing violent crimes, rather than sat in front of a computer screen deciding whether each tweet they are sent is offensive or not.’

Race-hate incidents reported in London alone included the barking dog, a student refused drinks in a bar and a bus driver who gave ‘a racist look’.

One woman reported a hate incident when a man stood ‘intimidatingly’ close to her because she was ‘a non-conforming- gender-specific lesbian in a wheelchair’.

A National Police Chiefs’ Council spokesman said: ‘By recording and reviewing reports of hate incidents, police forces play a vital role in helping prevent hate crime.

'Officers can often use these reports as an indication of where and when tensions could escalate into violence. Victims and those feeling vulnerable should report any incident of hate crime to the police.’ "

Saw this and thought of GD:

Fair play to the staff though for taking a stand, it is sadly another illustration though of how poor we are at tackling these people when they do commit crimes. Anyone else openly committing criminal damage would be arrested, especially if they hung around afterwards... but if you're with an aggressive gang complete with feral kids then the police will back off a bit and take the kid gloves approach - ignore the criminal damage, the fly tipping etc.. try to just monitor and claim it is all a civil matter.

The comments section is a good for giggle; 'Bomb them', 'Vermin!', 'Where's my flamethrower?' etc etc. That's what I've always liked about the Sun over other right wing media such as the Express or the daily Mail, it always attracts the moderates.

The Tories are the only party that would even consider addressing this issue and they have to tread lightly as it could potentially be used by their opponents to accuse them of bigotry and 'same old nasty Tories' label.

But they don’t, and that is the $64 question, WHY NOT? Does anyone have a sensible theory?
It has been said, rightly or wrongly, that the police were reluctant to get involved in the allegations of sexual abuse of underaged girls in the North and Midlands by men of a particular ethnic background, for fear of being accused of racism.
As apparently these “travellers” have now been designated as a race, do the police have that same fear, so are looking on, with eyes wide shut.

There's a world of difference between prosecuting people who are ***** on the internet (evidence is easy, the case is practically done already) and prosecuting people who are inherently apart from society.

Putting Travelers in prisons is a worthless waste of time and frankly dangerous for officers to contemplate, i'm sure a fair few police families have been targeted for it. There's no solution here. It needs to be more comprehensive, what way you take that word is up to you.

Regarding what exactly? Police have had some investigations over allegations of modern slavery within the traveler community.

apart from this being awesome, my first thought was how to upgrade to petrol bombs, but my second thought was how do you manage to poo in a balloon? :-/

ah, of course.
see, this is where the stupid forum star could have lead to disaster, had i tried to emulate.

hope the drone had a camera, would like to see footage of this. be as good as watching the Gulf War smart bomb footage.

Better since there's no risk to innocents.

I shouldn't, but LOL!
I genuinely wish I had been recording it from my perspective as it would have been YouTube gold, but nobody expected it, least of all the crowd of "travellers" who were standing in a group waving/gesturing at what they thought was a camera drone, then we saw this red dot fall towards them and they scattered like rats shrieking xD

I still don't understand why Trespass isn't a criminal offence.
It is under certain circumstances but I don't think simple occupation of land comes under that. If a group enter private land and start a rave then that is criminal. Now you see what our politicians are like and people want them to dictate all our laws!!
Andi.
