Treefrog Card signing / get well soon wishes

Sounds a good idea this postcard, anyone have an address yet as i'll will try to get it sent before the weekend as i go on holiday.

Sorry for any typos as most of this is being written whist talking to Paul (R124/LA420)

Those who know where the Stoke shop is could come by there for some signing. Just an idea. I will be donating money if there is a recipient and be honoured to be able to sign a card either at the Stoke shop or with Paul.

Couple, of things whist I'm taliking to Paul (R124/LA420) on the phone. First of all good news!! Jim is out of intensive care. He has 55% burns which is very serious. Jim is inside what they call a hermetically sealed unit because of his condition rendering him very susceptible to infection. We can NOT send gifts to Jim whilst he is at the hospital, and, he will be there for a further three months or more. Basically that includes flowers, especially lillies because they have particularly poisenous pollen. So to summise it, any gifts would probably need to go to either Paul or Jim's ex, and perhaps cards or scrapbooks for the Stoke area be collated at the shop (OC, UK, Stoke). For the southern folks to send all thier gifts, cards etc on to Stoke prior to `us here' getting everything to the right place finally (with the hospital having a policy of binning EVERYTHING for the prevention of infection sakes).

What we could use in the way of short term (immediate) messages can only be audio ideally because of Jim's isolatated status, and, he also cannot handle cards or books etc at the moment nor for some time.

Word has it that first thing Jim said apparently when he regained conscioussness was "please let my ex wife know that I cannot have the children this weekend'.... Speaks volumes...

On Saturday (when Pauls back from smoking around London in his wagon) Paul, or Paul and me (Jan) will come in to OC, Stoke shop, probably stand about a bit trying to look intelligent, then holler for Spie (Mark) in the shop and see where we are at and how we can help.

All of the above is part suggestions, and part advice with regard to Jim's actual condition which is bad, make no mistake. I can assure everyone on my part that Jim will be completely motivated and thankful of everyones kindness and generosity in this bloody awful time.

Cheers everyone,

Jan.

PS: Paul is asking incidentally if one of the Dons could give him a call on one of the telephone numbers given to Bezerker in an email this morning. Paul would be very grateful and as I write is about to go venturing for an internet cafe or something in the New Malden area whereby he will be right here probably with more news/info on Jim's condition. Cheers from Paul (R124/LA420).

If he can't handle cards, but will be able to listen to audio, perhaps an mp3 containing a song that we think may lift his spirits and audio messages from us?

That means he'll be missing the BBQ meet, :(
Aye, and poor sod being stuck there for 3 months :(
Although it could have been a lot worse so at least that's something.

Main thing is that he's out of intensive care and on his way to recovery. Let's just hope it's a speedy one :)

I live in New Malden! If he can't find an internet cafe he could come here and use one of my comps. Just shout if need be.

Good idea also, but I think the postcards are the best idea... they are something he can look back on years from now, and hopefully they will always lift his spirits :)

So where do we send them to? :)

Still, along with the postcards he can see later, an audio get-well to him would just be a cool and original idea, and something we could do quite easily. I'm sure he would get a hoot out of it.

If we all record at the same bit-rate, they could be spliced together into one unit 20 mins long... "Treefrog! This is Raist from OcUK. Get well soon, brother!"*

Hi all.

First of all, on behalf of my friend Jim and his family, can I express in the utmost sencerity our appreciation for the messages & thoughts coming this way (to Jim not me!)

This is very much appreciated.

I'll take this opertunity to quote varbatim a couple of txt's from his daughter to me whilst I was driving down to London this morning.
Thanks Paul for posting stuff on the forum about Dad,tried to sign up myself but i have had problems there is talk of a meet, when you can could you let them know he's doing better now and able to have visitors

With regard to the above, I DO NOT advise a mass Oc/UKmeet at his hospital - its hardly the timenor place imo, however well intended.

This afternoon, I got another which has raised my spirits....
Just seenDad he is much better, he is awake and talking and he can have visitors but only 2 at a time

Ok, what I do know having liased with his ex.

Jim has been on the receiving end of an industrial voltage shock, were not talking 240V here, he's suffered 55%+ burns to his upper body, hands, arms & his head.
His eyesight was saved by his glasses - which need replacing if theres any generous opticians about - the same glasses have apparently burned into his face.

Jims own Mother could'nt recognise her son when she saw him!

The damage done to his hands & their movementis the equivalent of another 30years on his life in terms of his ability to move his hands, think about that for a moment.... Truly shocking.

Thankyou to Mox3d for posting earlier on my behalf prior to me finding a web cafe in the New malden area (Internet Zone on the High St is where I am!)

Jim is going to be extremely bored, to put it mildly, over the coming months, his ex has said to me that perhaps we could try to organise an audio get well greeting for him, perhaps comprised of .wav files attatched to e-mailsand then collated onto a CD by myself or whoever.
Audio books will be a help in the fight against boredom also, start digging about guys if you have any spare.

As Mox3d has said, I intend to call into Oc/UK on Saturday and speak to Mark Proudfoot (Spie) to see if he would allow us to use Oc/UK as some kind of collection point for cards /donations etc.

Apologies for not contacting you directly Mark, please forgive any apparent cheek in us (Mox3D & I) suggesting this.

Again, I cannot express enough on Jims behalf my own gratitude to you all, I'm sitting here now pondering what else I've missed out.

Thank you 1 & all,

Paul.

Chris

Thankyou for that, I think I'm sorted.

(Internet Zone on the High Street) :)

Will, I have just read your OP, great idea! - just be mindful of Jims suceptibility to infection, (he's had a few layers of skin removed and is thus very open to infectious attack)

I think a collective card is a fine idea, but, I have been told the hospital will bin as a matter of routine any items sent.
I'll clarify.

If we send cards, Jim will receive them, but, as he moves from dept to dept on his long road to recovery, any cards etc don't apparently move with him (to avoid infections, nothing else).

An avalanche of get well cards would help anybody in his situation I'm sure, perhaps the "big one" could be kept back until Jimc could actually keep it, or, perhaps, I could take it to him & then subsequently keep it until his release from hospital.

I'm open to any suggestions you guys may have.

Thanks again for all efforts.

Very much appreciated.

Yours truly,

Paul.

Bloody hell :/

I think the postcard idea is great and could be done and given to him when he's out of the sealed ward and in the meantime we could all record little messages that could be put onto CD for him to listen to :)

I would advise against this Paul. I dont think the business would be a suitable hub for this, having seen how busy the place gets. Besides, Spie is unlikely to be able to gurantee any time, particulrly on short notice.

Understanding his condition better now, I'm coming round to the audio message idea. I propose going with your suggestion of people emailing MP3's of their messages (to myself probably, I'm close and can easily sort a CD(s) out when ready), that we can get to him ASAP to let him know we're thinking of him. We'll then have a little more time to thing about cards etc, and maybe even replacing those glasses.
