Tri-Fire AMD Brethren

Will it make much difference if the cards are at 16/16/16 against 16/8/8 and 16/8/4?

My board only does 16/8/4. :)

If you have pci-e 3.0 it should be ok, otherwise i would not recommend it. If you have pci-e 2.0 id go for x16 x8 x8 minimum. Failing that you can try it regardless and DSR if it sucks?

Yeah I got PCI-E 3.0, I'll try it and do some benching, if it sucks I'll order a new board, prepare to be number 2 with tri-fire ;)

Clov!s, arn't you on HW?
Cheapest option is getting a board that can do 3.0 4x. Rather than forking out for a PLX board. Your benchmarks will/should be identical to Matts, as he'll be running 2.0 8x, no difference between the two.

This.

I would urge to steer clear of PLX managed boards, a headache waiting to happen.

I've been flashing bios's frequently on mine with no problem tips. I reckon that problem you had is a Nvidia issue only. I flashed my new 290 without even using it first without any of those problems you had.

@ Clovis - In your case (pci-e 3.0) you can get a cheaper board, but don't be put off by the PLX hate works fine here. :)

I have trifire as well.:p

Technically you do mate, but i didn't include you cos you own four AMD gpu's lol. However i feel bad for saying that, so consider yourself on the list.

I need to do that thread, i will get round to that soon.

Wait see what x99 performs like imo if your looking at that road , if you dont like what you see grab a nice x79 off someone upgrading then :)

I have the SF platinum 1000w psu same as you, how's yours coping?

Fine so far. With my cpu @5Ghz and gpu's undervolted a bit at -0.037v and all three cards at stock running crysis 3 max details @1440P with vsync off, peak wattage just over 900W.
