Tri-Fire AMD Brethren

Ready to be pwned matt?

Challenge accepted! Ordered a 3770K to play around with as my 2700K doesn't seem to be playing nicely with high speed memory overclocks since i added my third card.

Welcome to the club. Are those reference cards? I recommend Antec spot cool fans to help ease the TriFire heat as well as learning to undervolt your cards.

Haswell-E anything else is just underpowered :p

Thanks :) Yeah they are reference, flashed to 290X too, all 3 of them

i'm tempted to spec a full WC loop for all 3 cards, but i doubt i'll keep them long enough :p

I know, it's a sidegrade at best. It's just too expensive to bother switching to X79 for now. Will reassess a few months down the line. I intend many more upgrades over the coming months.

Sweet. Where did you get them from?

I had originally ordered 2 more Tri-x from somewhere else but they weren't being delivered until tuesday, so i swapped my card + some cash for all 3 of these 290's from the MM :)

Went and picked them up this morning :)

Nice one. What board and case will you be using them in?

I have a Corsair 760T but it sucks tbh and i have a Gigabtye Z87-UD4H & 4770K. :)

Thinking about ordering a Corsair 540, as they are more spacious inside than this POS. :p

I have the Carbide 540 so can definitely give it a two thumbs up. Great case for multi gpu cooling. You'll want high static pressure fans in the front if you stick with the reference coolers for any length of time. Noctua Industrials would be my recommendation. 3000 rpm pwm if you can put up with noise, or if you prefer quiet go with the 2000 rpm pwm versions. Mine (3000rpm) rev up loud on boot but quiet down using AI Suite II when windows boots. They only then rev up once cpu temps go up.

These what you using? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-022-NC&groupid=701&catid=2331

The problem with this case is it allows for 3 fans, 1 rear and 2 at the front, the top 3 spaces are taken up by my AIO Corsair cooler, so i don't know how good a job 3 new fans will do :/

Carbide 540 ftw mate.

Yes, those are the ones. I have three of these in the front. One of these in the rear and two of these on my H110 pushing air up and out the roof of the 540.

I took this pic before i added the final Noctua 120MM fan to the rear.

I've since added an Antec Spot Cool fan between card 2 and 3 in the pci bracket slot. This pushes the hot air from card 1 and 2 to the rear exhaust fan and means that card 1 and 2 now run at identical temps. Card 3 runs about 3-4c cooler than both of those. Quite happy with that considering.

Nice :) Are the fans at the front sucking in and the rear exhausting?

I could maybe pick up a 900D and have loads of room, what you think?

We all knew he wouldn't resist spending more :D

To be honest the problem was i can't run my memory overclocks anymore with the third card in. Hoping Ivy with its better memory overclocking will help with that. If i get a dud i may DSR it though back to once it came. :p

Not familiar with the 900D, but big and spacious sounds ideal. Depends what the board is like tbh i guess. The carbide 540 is big, but there may be better out there i expect. Does the 900D have side fans? That would help i guess. The carbide 540 does not, but with static pressure fans and the carbide 540 design you can literally just blast air in and out of the case very quickly in one direction.

If i can find a good deal on some x79/2011 gear ill do you a good deal on my 4770K. :p ;)

Nope, it had a big side window like my 760T does, so no option for side fans, a big let down IMO.

Think i'll go for a 540 then, more bloody money :p
