Tribes Ascend

I suspect releasing an obviously-overpowered weapon is part of their pricing and release plan. Of course they're making a nice income... maybe this is the whole point? I know in my moments of rage I've been tempted to buy it and join in with the mindless fragging. Evidently so have many other people.

As long as it gets nerfed its not really a problem. I'm sure it cost a lot to make the game so I'm more than happy for them to make money from it. Its not like any of the op guns will be allowed in comp play which is where I'm working towards. Getting a team of 8 working together is a lot more enjoyable. I doubt pubs will ever get to that stage unless some admins enforce it.

I'm really getting into this. It's a lot different than anything I've ever played before.

I run a 5770 and on medium settings I get 40-60FPS, but I did purchase a 5850 from the MM lately, think this will allow me to run higher settings with a smooth fps?

Cheers

The Plasma Gun is pretty OP right now, will need something changing.

Fully agree. I played the game properly for the first time since the update last night and was horrified by how brutally effective the weapon is.

There was 1 raider on each team and both had kill scores in the +25 range while the rest of the team had an average of 7. The size, speed and homing effect of the round make it next to impossible to dodge at anything but maximum range.

I was loving the game before this weapon was introduced, but it's woefully imbalanced now.

They have said they will be releasing a patch soon to address some balancing issues and the plasma gun will be most likely in that. All they really need to do is adjust the projectile size so its more in line with other projectiles. Maybe a slight rof nerf as well but just the projectile size at first would be fantastic.

Someone claimed the Plasma Gun was fine, so played a round with it..

HiRez desperately needs to fix this. :(

What they should probably do is release stuff pre nerfed and then buff it into balance over time. Kind of what CCP does with Eve except not take a few years to sort it out :D

That would be a better way to go about it.

The Plasma Gun being OP is only half the problem, the other half is the broken hit boxes, I don't even have to hit someone for it to register as a direct hit.

How this got through QA doesn't just surprise me, it even brings me to question if HiRez are competent enough to house the 'eSports' title they claim to be aiming for.

If they keep releasing these flavor of the month updates containing OP items, I fear this game won't last long at all. I've only just in the past 1/2 week been able to play a game without 5 Infiltrators on each team.

Call me overly cynical, but the reason they don't do that is because, flavour of the month item, people buy it, do well in the game. Hi Rez claim it was all an accident, nerf it to maintain their reputation as having a "fair" micro transaction system. Rinse, repeat. They don't have to do it regularly, but occasionally, having an outbreak of OP items can only be good for them.

Going into a rant now, so be warned:
This game never should have been F2P in the first place. Games in the past have always managed to remain on a normal model, make money and do well. The very idea of loading tribes up with 10 million weapons and skins and having a built in shop is slightly abhorrent to me, honestly.

Hi Rez have done a really, really good job of making Tribes: Ascend a good game but I really do question the business model. It works for a wacky game like TF2 but it doesn't feel like it should for a competitive game like tribes.

Anyway, I'll be playing on custom servers till they get this fixed. I am really glad they have added in the option for people to do so, that is, as far as I'm concerned, a very good move on their behalf.

^ I feel the exact same way. It also mirrors TF2 in an unpleasant and unsettling way for me, too. Excellent core game, ruined by superfluous business model. It's an odd scenario because they're technically spiting all the hard work they have done to craft an excellent game... but are getting rich in the process.

i need to play this more :( 2hr a night so far , unlocked raider lastnight after using the jackal for infill thought id like it , but im totally fail with it.

After playing last night for the first time in a week or so I have to say the Plasma is OP, ridiculous hit box and lack of accuracy too.

Let's hope they fix this and make it less obvious that's it's PAY2WIN!

I'm just playing once a day for my win of the day bonus until the fix the plasma gun, it's just silly and ruins the balance of the game. I just don't get how it got past their internal testing like this.
