Trick or treating

The only place I have lived where its really been a thing is now. We live very close to 2x US bases.
We see a marked increase in traffic around for the 31st. I think those that live on base (tend to be families) come off base to visit those who live off base for parties and things, and have a trawl around the area for people giving out sweets etc.

I turn the lights off in the house and go sit in my rear reception room instead of the front reception rooms - it’s a truly daft American import and one I avoid like the plague. I’m sure that makes me dead inside or something.

I moved into this place early this year so I have no idea if we will get any kids coming round, bought some Haribo etc. just in case.

Worst case scenario I will take them into work and everyone there can have 'em.

At work, we are going to stop teens and chavs from buying eggs and flour.

Sold the last pumpkin yesterday which is always the case for all the years I worked there. People have a whinge about it. Don't leave things to the last minute. No sympathy for those who do.

Victor Meldrew must read your posts and frantically scribble notes.

It was a bit more of a thing between approx. 1997 and 2003 around here but seems to have died off since aside from a small number of younger families, I've not seen anything of it this year, maybe due to the weather being miserable.
According to a popular radio phone in show gangs of teenagers asking for money which they then use to buy alcohol etc and generally being intimidating people don't like opening their doors

Never had any Halloween callers here in the 28 odd years of living here. My dislike of speculative callers and children in general must precede me :)

Did have to get a bit strong with a persistent Jehovah's Witness many years ago, told him I suspected he was a fake and was having an affair with my wife and I'd take a horsewhip to him if I saw him again. He left with amazing fluidity for a fellow who arrived with a dodgy looking limp. Anyway it's pitch black here at night, no pavements and the gates are chained. Not exactly ideal for trick or treating.

That's what they do here. Plus ring/knock on people's homes that don't have any pumpkins and other Halloween stuff outside. If the person answers the door to them and says they aren't giving anything to them - their home gets eggs and flour thrown at it.

Bloody charming.

Had none last year but we have a general rule around here.

No Halloween stuff outside and you do not knock, you knock on the doors that do.

Less and less people are doing it now though and my guess is because all the kids have grown up and no longer want to do it.

My son is now 15, when younger we used to take part and go round etc but as he has no interest in it now we do not bother

Goths are hot…… especially the girls.
Especially when it's Scarlett...
