I don't for a second think he's part of the killing but has been investigating it off the grid for years. He may have done something like gone undercover and done some bad crap or covered up murders to try and get up the chain of a like large police/political ring of evil guys or something.
I figure the guys falling out will end up being to do with the wife potentially, or simply a set up for a reason people don't believe they talk. In reality both working the case from different angles one inside the law one outside.
Either way, it's gripping tv and every episode and pretty much every second of every episode has been brilliant so far.
ive got a feeling woody is connected in some way as i thought about some recent roles hes done and hes been a bit evil in some and a deep south kinda person redneck.

Watched the first episode last night after reading the start of this thread, and seeing the advert which made it look interesting. The only other US drama series I've ever watched is Game of Thrones, so I don't know how this compares to the many others out there, but the first episode was slow slow slow. Will watch the 2nd to see how it progresses, hopefully something will happen that makes me want to watch the whole series.

Ok so now we have Cohle who thinks he has stumbled on to a conspiracy of some kind where people are getting killed and the police are helping to cover it. Both hart and his wife are covering for Cohle.
He is definitely on to something and looks like they are going to show more from present day now that Martin and his wife have both stopped the interview with internal affairs.

It is supposed to be slow, its about the thought processes, the mindgames, where things take time, as opposed to csi style "oh look, here's a blood sample.. and the survey says... the butler did it!"

That's a bit of an excited reply considering all I said was that I didn't know how it compared to other shows, and that it was very slow. I didn't say "what a load of rubbish", and I did say that I'll be watching the next episode. Hopefully something that I find interesting will happen in the next episode to keep me watching

Loving this more and more. Totally confused to what to beleive though. Really not sure what direction this is going in. Sensational.
Tell a complex interesting Story in 3 Hours or in 8? I know which Format I prefer. Good TV Shows are simply better than good Films. Unfortunately it's Films that, generally speaking, get the big Budgets.
