Turkish Grand Prix 2011, Istanbul Park - Race 4/19

The place is empty, Turkey, yet another country clearly with no interest in the sport.

Yeah I know, frustrating isn't it. Especially when you have places like Britain, Germany, Canada etc that sell out having to fight for their place on the calendar.

Its the result of government funding for F1. F1 is going to countries where the money is, not where the fans are.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

LOL @ the McLaren overalls for this Quali session! Looks like he forgot his trousers and has borrowed some from the spare kit drawer!

Final practice - Vettel recovers in style
For a while it looked like old times as Michael Schumacher sat at the top of the timesheets, but then Sebastian Vettel showed that his accident yesterday had had little effect by setting the fastest time in the final free practice session this morning in Istanbul Park. By a thousandth of a second…

Pirelli have really shafted the tyres. Soft and Hard compound have the same life... but the soft has more grip.

Surely the hard tyre should have less grip, but a longer life?

If they are going to have this stupid rule, have different manufactures make the different spec tyres. ;) Pirelli make the soft, LingLong make the hard. :D

Oooh, that should be Kobayashi out of qualifying.

Did Kobayashi have the pitlane limiter on, whilst on track there?
Disappointing. Will be good to see him with a good amount of fresh tyres to race through the pack. (Hoping that happens)

I completely disagree. The major issue last year was tyres that could happily do the entire race. Having no tyre that can do any more than 20 laps is great. Yeah the Hards should possibly last a bit longer than the soft, but given the great races we have had so far this year I think the Pirelli tyres are spot on.

Wow, great front on shot of the McLarens and Merc with completely different wing designs in terms of DRS. The McLaren top element is huge and doesn't seem to open up much of a gap in the wing, while the Merc opens a much smaller flap into a huge gap!

A progression would be ideal for racing, actually make the soft tyre soft. Something along the lines of:

Super soft - 10 laps
Soft - 13 laps
Medium - 16 laps
Hard - 20 laps

Intermediate and Wets should have roughly the same lifespan, but only within their respective performance windows.

As it is, there's no point having the different compounds if they are going to have the same life. Just make one tyre and send 15 sets for each car to every race.

Hard to say anything based on Q1 times because they arent giving it their all, but it looks like Ferrari have tightened the gap a little.
