TV Licence Super Thread

Why would you let someone that aggressive and rude into your house? Why let a stranger come into your house and film it all and then walk away with that film. I used to let them in but don’t anymore as it’s not just 5minients and in my experience not worth doing.

I was only thinking yesterday with GDPR they no longer have any right to store information on you. You are not a customer and you have no contract with them. Why should they be allowed to bully you into giveing them video and personally data?

It's different if they are bullying. I wouldn't do that but if they where polite then it's fine. That's an interesting point about GDPR. That would apply to all door knockers and people wouldn't be allowed to save any data about you.

Some of you are far too forthcoming. I had some clown banging on my door a few months ago. Even when they said "It's the Police, open up" I still ignored them. Jog on mate I don't give a **** who you are. Unless I invite you round you got no business coming round my property. Needless to say, said Police never returned.

I’m still yet to ever have a visit despite 11 years now since I’ve had my own properties. We get letters every few months addressed to “the occupier” but still never seen an officer in all of this time. They must be incredibly thin on the ground, or can’t be bothered with individual houses out in the country perhaps.

GDPR means nothing of the sort. TV Licensing can still store information on you as previously.

You can always invite them into the house to check, but make sure you take pictures of their ID cards, pictures of them, and get them to sign in 'for health and safety reasons'. Make them wait 20 minutes while you prepare their ID for them like you'd get at an office. Troll them for as long as possible, then tell them your boss has had a word with you and you're to decline entry. Sorry mate, nothing I can do.

OMG this just gets better!!
The other half has informed me that she knows the guy and that his brother has been done for benefit fraud twice.

It's shameful that they probably use these bully boy tactics on the elderly and vulnerable.

They would have to keep hiring more and more staff to keep up with increasing numbers of people cancelling. Making it totally impractical.

I suspect the distance to their nearest offices has something to do with it as well. I think the nearest one to me is Luton, which is miles away. It's a long round trip for nothing.

Why don't people just ignore the door? Like don't open the door?

Surely that would stop it right?

I've seen so many videos of these ********* being aggressive to people unnecessarily :(

Never understand people getting aggressive either, it never achieves anything. If we ever do get a visit i will just politely decline entry and tell them that i am not interested in purchasing a license, if they wish to leave a leaflet or indeed any paperwork with me, they are free to do so, but failing that we have no further business.

Not that i expect i'll ever see one, as i say, 11 years so far..

Surely it would just be easier to let them in and show them you don't need a license? It cracks me up how wound up some people get over this.

All you need to do is watch some of these YouTube videos to see how awful some of these guys are - I certainly wouldn't want them in my house.

They're basically bailiffs that are collecting a debt that doesn't exist (or are trying to prove exists).

Considering a lot of TV License "inspectors" are just people who were looking for any part-time work, get sent out with a list of people (and probably targets to meet), a clipboard and the bare minimum of training - why would you want to invite them into your home?
