warmest regards, is, actually, not inconsistant, with the language Auntie is using in their adds to the over-75s segment who will soon be indebted to them.

The parenthesis were needed - I thought the thread was about scam.

yeah - had this email about 4 times over last 10 days....

Looks very legit in places and I can see a lot of older people/non savvy people falling for it. The "quality" of the email/layout/pictures etc looks very real in places.

Just when you read some of the wording (Dear <email address>) etc does it look fake.

Not sure why this has been merged with the TV licence thread as it's a scam and nothing to do with the (currently) legit TV licence, most people aren't going to read this thread as it just keeps going round and round with the same arguments, surely removing the posts regarding the real TV licence and leave the original scam email post would've been better.

Many times. If you don’t watch live TV or use BBC IPlayer you don’t need a licence. If you do, you do. It’s very simple.

You know full well that most people's issue is not being able to watch non-bbc live content when TV licence money only goes to the BBC. Not sure why anyone would defend such a draconian law.

Why should we need a license to watch non-BBC content in 2020?

If the other channels got a cut of the licence for their live content then fair enough.

Well some of the licence fee (17.3%) is actually for radio stations.

9.9% of it is spent on the World Service

Part of the fee also contributes towards Freeview and Freesat, and towards the UK broadband rollout, funding local TV channels and S4C, the Welsh language TV channel, as agreed with the government as part of the 2010 licence fee settlement

Only 55% goes to the BBC for TV.

Did not know that.

If TV licensing were more overt about these facts then maybe some would not be so anti-tv livense.

There's still a huge amount of crap for which the BBC uses our money.

How many of us would choose to pay for BBC3, etc.

Or creating content in that made-up language, Pidgin.

To be fair i dont mind the world service and radio stations. I suppose the 55% for the TV so around £7 per month(?) which is a compulsory subscription people don't have a choice over.

Perhaps the Govt should fund these out of taxes and tax everybody £6 per month more and then have the BBC TV stations as an optional subscription service just like Netflix and Sky?

Thats exactly how it should be. I dont mind paying a small amount in taxes to fund some of the stuff.

I resent being forced to pay what is , relatively, a lot of money for TV channels I barely even watch/could do without.

Less taxes and forced subscription is not right way to go.

Give people the choice to pay for a service or not.
