No other company in the world makes you prove you don't use or require their services.
Utilities? HMRC and the DVLA usually like to know what you're doing as well.....

Back on topic, sticking it to the man, yeah!!!

The DVLA don't send sales people round to my house nor do HMRC.

I don't drive a car so don't have a licence. The DVLA don't post frequent letters demanding that I have to buy a driving locence if i plan on driving. So why is it ok for the BBC to harass folk?

Who said it was? I didn't....

And the BBC is a public broadcaster, not an "subscription entertainment service" as you put it and nothing comparable to a streaming service but then, you knew that already so.

Define "Public Broadcaster" what does the BBC do that no one else can? That concept is as outdated as the concept of Licencing a TV Broadcase its self, its legacy from when in 1922 the BBC was the only one broadcasting and in those days we had very different ideas about how that should be paid for.

Its just about money, their continued existence, the BBC is a slice of old post WW1 Britain still trying to hang on to its 1922 legacy reason and way of existing because that is the only way it can guarantee its existence without having to justify it in any other way, in the way that all of its peers have to justify their existence.

Not quite right that as they sure as **** will send you threatening letters and "sales people" if you don't pay up or get it wrong
But understandably it isn't quite comparable....

What about utility companies with regards to your original question?

Define "Public Broadcaster" what does the BBC do that no one else can?
Wind up people on a computer shop forum

Just got my declaration sent through today and i swear it never use to say all this BS about needing a license to watch youtube or netflix?! Now i have to declare i don't watch either to be able to declare i don't need a licence wtf?!

Nvm read it wrong its only for live tv which i don't as its boring as hell!

A) Fill the form telling them you don't need one.
B) If they ask just to double check let them double check by any means.

Nothing to hide you will be alright. If you have something to hide and they catch you.

See you in court.

Missing the point completely....

EXPLAIN TO ME HOW YOU PROVE TO THE PERSON STOOD ON YOUR DOOR STEP, THAT YOU DO NOT ACCESS ANY CONTENT COVERD BY A TV LICENCE

Then fix those problems then. :) Not hard is it.
Actually, it can be very hard, and we are not able to fix the problems easy. I have yet to see any valid explanation off you that reliably works and doesn't make the situating worse.

You don't ignore them. This is why letters are sent saying they will get someone to check on the property to make sure they are not illegally watching broadcasts that bbc think you need a tv licence for.

You fix the problem by telling them you don't need one at the moment because you don't watch services that require one.

Ignoring them will only cause more problems. If they think you are watching something and they can prove it then they will take you to court and will fine you.

Keep those curtains closed. ;)
Thats not true. Contacting them in the way you say causes more problems than ignoring them. Just look at all the people in this thread that contacted them then ended up worse off over if they had ignored them. Telling them often does not fix the problem and often make everything worse.

Until then just fill the ******* form in and tell them you don't need one. 30 seconds.

I could have filled it in for every single person in here in the amount of time you lot have created a post debating that you shouldn't have to do it.

I think the people againts it in here are the ones who need a licence and watch shows on bbc, trying to avoid the situation by complainging on here.
Accept that often doesn't work, it doesn't just take 30seconds and what you think has been proven wrong time and time again. We are not trying to avoid the situation by complaining on here nor or we are making life more difficult for ourselves or trying to watch TV without a licence when we need one. What you're thinking is just wrong.
