Twitter

I presume you're a normal person, so you've gained knowledge of Trent's latest antics.

If you've not got a ton of fans following you, then you can just use it as public, less synchronous IM with people you know.

Why would I register though? I have no desire to post updates about my world to random people on twitter. I have facebook for that :p

Tony Hawks keeps giving away stuff on Twitter. Quite cool, he posts where he's left something. Normally a skateboard/skate gear and then posts once somebody has "Tweeted" that they got it.

Heh I bet Twitter are paying him to do that :p

what monetary gain would they get out of it? they don't need the PR, that's selling itself with all the hype and exposure.

I've had a twitter account since the start of the year, have some really interesting followers. I basically use it akin to a customised RSS feed - I get my news, banter and chat all in one place. Although I admittedly seem to post drivel.

There's always a need for more "Hype and Exposure".
Just because Coke and Pepsi sell well doesn't mean they need to stop advertising their items.

I completely agree, but Coke and Pepsi have a monetised product, and a fully fledged business model. Twitter is a venture capital service that is ad-free and seemingly revenue-free. It seems to be lacking an all important set of positive numbers in it's accounts.

No.

I hate online social website thingys.

I love how people who have next to no social life come out with this. Sure, its slightly annoying in some respects, and the kids that sit on the sites 24/7 uploading photos of themselves are also retarded.

But christ, get over yourself. Its a good, handy, way of getting in touch with people. Especially people who you may of moved away from etc. Its as retarded as refusing to use a phone, or letters - Just even more so, becaus its free.

No, it's not quite the same as a phone or letters because while they're useful as a mode of communication they're all more than just that.

I still have yet to understand the wall feature, I mean whenever have I sent a text message that then has the potential to instantly pop up on over 150 screens? But then that's also because you're dealing with people mostly from real life, as opposed to forums.

Purely in terms of the 'celeb Twittering', I heard a lot of the celeb stuff is actually done by a paid third party on their behalf.
Even if celeb posts were genuine who gives a flying stuff (excl. those people with very empty lives or nothing to do with their time).

For the record I'm not against social networking sites (I'm on FB).
