Two New Intel SandyBridge CPUs - The 2700K Retail and 2700K OEM - Pre-Order NOW (GIBBO tested upto 5

you're above your own recommend max voltages (1.38v) there :)

Thanks for pointing that out, we shall edit that as that info is from the intial 2500/2600k launch before much was known. :)

We deem maximum safe voltage for 24/7 use of 1.45v.
Intel recommend no higher than 1.425v. :)

I'm kind of a noob when it comes to overclocking (which is one of the reasons i joined here, to get some more knowledge on the topic), but liquid cooling, whats the highest clock speed? I read somewhere that origin had pushed it beyond 5 ghz, but i think they were air cooling.. Any ideas as to what speeds are achievable with liquid cooling?

Unknown, regular water cooling, probably not hugely higher than air-cooling as heat is not the enemy of these CPU's until you really chuck a lot of voltage into them and for regular air/water cooling you don't want to exceed 1.45v.

If your on extreme cooling or very very good water cooling some would say you can get away with higher voltages. :)

Gibbo - what is 1.45v lifespan are ? 1 year / 5 years or 10 years ? Mine is 1.48v for nearly 4 months now and I want to know how long lifespan on my cpu got left ?

According to Intel upto 1.425v will not effect lifespan.

Thats official word from Intel, I'd imagine they are quite conservative, as such I'd imagine 1.45v will not limit lifespan either.

1.48v however is unknown, if may not limit the CPU's lifespan at all, especially if its kept reasonably well cooled. :)

I bought & still using this package from you guys way back can you offer the same sort of thing with this chip @ 5GHz ?
With a Corsair Hydro H80 or similar.

I don't think that's true, any bump in voltage on a CPU ran at full load will affect its lifespan.

High voltages and temperatures will always reduce the lifespan of a CPU, the question is by what factor and when you start hitting the quickly degrading limit.

Thanks for providing this info, Ive limited myself to 1.38v all this time, even though my temperatures on full load were below 60c.

What would you use 5.4 ghz for though other thn bragging rights ?
I'm pretty sure most games would run pretty well with the stock
3.5 ghz, so unless you use heavy duty program's daily, whts the point
Of over clocking the cpu this much??

I need it for MS flight simulator X
100% usage at 4Ghz here at the moment so if I can buy a pre OC 5GHz I will press the buy button if it's not a ripoff price.

History tells us that Intels first batch of chips are ALWAYS the best.
While 5ghz is very nice overclock, 5mins of prime isn't really prime stable is it? ;).

Are they worth the price over a 2600k, for a first time buyer into sandy-bridge, yes they most deferentially are, you get a higher base clock and a new batch of silicone which clocks very well indeed.

For the right person who is wanting the highest overclocks this silicone is a must atm.

I say get them while they are hot, as I know for a fact the clocks will slack off after this batch is gone.

Also like to add, these are great for the anal people out there who have poor clocking 2600k chips.

Get them sold on the bay and get one of these, but that's for the very anal people to overclocking.

Maximus IV Extreme.

would the asrock extreme7 give similar results? what case did you use or was it a test bench with no cases?

had another play with the back plate of the h2flo, got 3 of the double sided stand offs not wiggling(the one that wasn't wiggling before is the one thats wiggly now. will it effect the cooling(i.e. will the 'waterblock' bti be secure or loose?)? I don't seem to be getting any answers regarding this and the configration of the fans(i.e. drawing air in or exhausting, I'll be attaching 2 fans to the radiator).

Good luck Boostjunky - are you purchase the whole new 2700K or upgrade from 2600K ?

Yes mate i'm upgrading from a 2600k to the 2700k, purely out of curiosity to see how high it will overclock. Luckily I run a system with high end custom watercooling. I probably will gain very little over my current 2600k however i've got a bit of spare cash so I thought i'd treat myself.

Should be here tomorrow so i'll be sure to post my overclock results. I never go for 24 hours stable though, 4-5 hours is enough for me.

100% ?! Jeez! I used to play FSX on a c2d ! I still use a c2d for gaming!
But then that's just me :)
