Ok, I'm having a mental block, gone to carry on today and I've totally forgotten how to set their breaks, been trawling through the interface and cant jog my memory. Damn, why did I stop playing !
In the finances menu - hit the dollar icon bottom left and go to Overview then select the "Staff" tab and it's in the top right (not a very intuitive location for it imho)
Also what governs their experience rate as it seems to take ages for staff to level up and gain an extra training slot/trait?
From what I can tell their XP rate steadily climbs as they work, and once it hits the threshold for the next level (Junior, Doctor, Senior, Consultant, etc) they sometimes need to learn an additional skill in the training room to advance... at which point they also gain a new empty slot...
As for what to train people in, on that Mitton level I basically singled out some specific staff and trained them to become teachers, e.g. one doctor I used an external trainer to teach him General Practice I, II and III and then hired a bunch of Junior docs and had him teach them all GP I and GP II... likewise I had a nurse who got Ward Management, a nurse who got diagnostics and a nurse who got treatment. I wouldn't think of the skills as the be-all-end-all though - their diagnostic and treatment skills also see bumps as they level up, but I feel it's still good to specialise your staff skills once you have the luxury of resources to do it (so for instance a doctor with gp I, diagnosis I, treatment I, psychiatry I is an okay jack-of-all-trades... but it would be better to have a dedicated psych with I - IV and a dedicated GP with gp I - IV and so on, with just a few broader docs to fill in the gaps when people are on break etc)
Edit: I just finished off Mitton and Tumble (still got to go back and get 1 star at mitton) and loving the game so far
