What's the consensus on the Accord 2.4 Type S?

I'm looking for a relatively cheap runaround of this ilk (3 series, A4, Mondeo etc) and although a friend had one which I liked, he didn't have it all that long so I don't know much about reliability/running costs.

It's a Honda, it'll be reliable. A mate had one, said it was pretty thirsty.

In need of some advise on a good all rounder tyre? Are these CONTINENTAL PREMIUM CONTACT 5 a good all rounder for my 2003 Civic?

Sadly the Continental ContiPremiumContact 5 aren't available in my profile size 205/50 R16. So I have done a bit of research and narrowed it down to these three summer tyres. Have any of you guys had any experience with any of the tyres linked below with your Civics?

Nokian ZG2

Michelin Pilot Sport 3

Continental ContiPremiumContact 2

Yeah pretty much its quite obvious its one of the ugliets looking cars around I'm sure he is well aware of this fact and I'm sure he's heard it all before seeing as though he's had it coming on ten years IIRC

... no, coming up to 4 years though!

Oddly enough I havent really had many outbursts between my original thread and your post. :)

Atleast they have proper Honda heritage made at the same Japanese Plant ;)

PC2 are very soft. Ran them on my e36 for a couple of weeks in 205/60/15 form, made the car feel like a wallowy barge despite having a very 'sporty' chassis setup. They have good traction in poor conditions though, and are quiet and comfortable. Wear rate is poor though.

Thanks for the reply Clarkey. I have read bad things about the wear of the tyres not being particularly good.

My H22 prelude had a weepy cam seal, you'll get straightened out Vita, think of it as a project its only minor stuff

Yes I will have to. It will need to have a few things sorted. They're not major, but I'm going to be anal about it. Shouldn't cost too much either. I'm just worried about the noise on lift off.

Did you not test drive it before you bought the car? Old cars are always a gamble especially performance cars that go into shed money that will likely to have been abused unfortunately. But still if you get those one or two things sorted you've got a good car that will give you smiles for a good couple of years.

They are lovely cars mate, highly underrated, bulletproof reliability and running costs are reasonable but it is still a 2.4 at the end of the day an you might find yourself redlining it a lot ;). They are on my next car list and I plan to have one for a very very long time!

Explain? Why do I need to change them right now I want you and Fox to tell me why I need to change my perfectly legal tyres?

Theres some scare mongerers on here so take it with a pinch of salt, if I were you I'd get it into a specialist and get them to go over it and get a list of what needs doing and go through it as you can afford it bit by bit, end end of the day its an old car and a few bits will need doing

Why buy a fantastic handling car if you obviously don't give a stuff about how it handles?

I dive it how its meant to be driven conditions permitting and I've already said I'll change them when the weather gets better, if you cant drive a car because it has perfectly good tyres on it then its you that has an issue

Mine - he borrowed it when i lived in the US for a few months.

Looks good, I thought yours was standard and blue for some reason

My tyres (Potenzas) are down to 4mm and I'll be changing to Syron Race 1 Plus. I don't think the few days we get of snow warrant me changing between 'winter' and summer tyres so I'm going to carry on and stick with the same ones all year round, as I always have done.

Anyone ever had an MFactory diff in their Honda? Thoughts, opinions, ideas? :)

Got chance to get a s/h one for the FN2 pretty cheap, but heard some slightly mixed reports (usually from quaife owners or wavetrac sellers but you know how it goes...)

I did drive it, it's perfectly fine mechanically. I actually didn't even notice the lift off noise. It came apparent after the snow and car being parked outside. I was told it's the LSD because of the weather, I find that hard to believe.

I'm going to try an gearbox oil change first just to see if that quietens it. I'll be taking it to my local mechanic to see what he says.

It's just a few things which need sorting and shouldn't break the bank. It'll help as I'll be keeping this for a lot longer then I usually keep my cars.

I may do that if my local can't do a certain job. Most likely the gearbox if it's shot. It was refurbed in August 2012. I can't believe it's already faulty, that's if it is. The noise on lift off is like a kshhh kshhh type. It actually occurs on rev build up too past 3krpm as the revs build up, the noise does too. This is out of gear also. On the receipt of the gearbox it says 'fitted used-gearbox'.

I asked the owner this and he said the garage said they refurbed the syncros. I will question that garage with said receipt, just to clarify what's what.

Will MFactory are supposed to be very very good.

I was going to get one of their diffs until the JDM one popped up cheap.

Sounds like the good old input shaft bearing, all Honda gearbox's seem to be plagued by the issue. Doesn't tend to get much worse for a long time though. It explains the hushing whir at idle when you engage the clutch.

I'm not sure. It occurs on idle once the car has been driven. I meant that it occurs while driving the car, as well as when it's idle.

The hushing, closest I can describe to is like a induction air filter breathing out. It's very strange.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Is it a costly fix?

EDIT:

Sounds a lot like that!
