Well, I took the ATR to my local mechanic. He thinks that the oil leak is coming from the intake manifold. Running down the back of the block onto the oil filter, then down the oil filter onto the oil pressure sensor.

Another leak is coming from the top of the block and collecting underneath the gearbox.

This could mean 3 things;

Cam End seal needs replacing (common fault)

Intake Manifold gasket needs replacing. I will check this using the carb cleaner test. If the car idles higher then it normally does it, means there is a problem.

Cam cover gasket. Apparently sealant has been used to secure the cam cover to the head.

I'm looking to change my car shortly and was torn between both the EP3 and the FN2. I would be looking to spend towards the upper end of the EP3 market which I've notice is creeping towards the FN2 market. Are they radically different or is it more of a subtle thing? Also What sort of price would you be looking at for when you aren't getting bottom of the barrel FN2's and what is considered ott for an EP3?

cam seal should be done anyway, mine was £6 for the CRX.

I shall check the spark plugs tomorrow. If their is oil in, then does that mean the gasket is shot?

How difficult is the cam seal to replace, Tim?

Inlet manifold has nothing to do with oil?

cam seal is an easy job vita, even for a novice like myself.

remove spark plug cover
remove rocker cover after disconnecting oil breather pipe/earth wires etc.
unplug spark plug leads, check for oil in spark plug wells, if there's oil replace the 4 x o-rings.
remove exhaust cam plate, i think it's 10 or 12 bolts.
remove vtec solenoid, 3 x horizontal bolts that screw towards the block.
once cam plate is removed you will be able to lift the old leaky seal out.
replace seal and put it all back together.

probably worth replacing the vtec solenoid gasket whilst you're at it.

oh and whilst the rocker cover's off you've got a great excuse to nitromors and re-paint it:cool:

:(

From the picture I posted does it seem to be the cam seal? I steam washed the engine today especially around that area.

It would be a pain in the backside, so I may as well get the O rings before hand?

I may just take it to Honda to get it done at. Though they'll charge silly £££. Are their any specialists in London?

EDIT: I looked at the PCV couldn't see any leaks. :/

Classic leaky cam seal picture yes.

You can pull out the spark plug wires to check for oil before removing rocker cover, but I think they're only £2.50 each or something so you might as well change them.

DUH. Sorry, having a slow evening. Really annoyed with the car even though the problems are not bad. I guess I'm just thinking the worst and imagining the engine blowing up, due to lack of oil!

The only bits on your car that have failed are made from rubber. 13 year old perished rubber. Stop worrying and get those gaskets changed:p

So Cam Cover gasket/cam seal/O Rings - may as well/new oil sump

Anything else? lingshondaparts right? How long do they usually take to dispatch?

I wish I had half the skills of some of you in here. I'm already sweating at removing the filter off my CAI tomorrow. All I got to do is remove the wheel and inner arch liner, no doubt something will get broken.

^ This.

Mine need to be changed but it isn't really leaking so I haven't bothered yet.

A few little fixes and tweaks doesn't mean the car is a shed or about to blow up.

Totally different cars with the same engine if that makes any sense what so ever

The FN2 has an interior that is leagues ahead of the EP3 and the kit level is much higher on the common GT spec FN2

The EP3 interior isnt the nicest place to spend a lot of miles in my opinion but then others will say its the better drivers car, if thats true then its by a marginal amount

For the higher end of the EP3 market you're looking at the bottom end of the FN2 market, you would need to spend around £7k to get a nice FN2 from trade, maybe £6.5 in a private sale
