Type R and VTEC owners

*snip* I did also start by looking at DC5's but I can't really justify the silly insurance costs on one *snip*

Just for clarity, I am 27 and insure my DC5 for ~ £600. Have you run some quotes with the specialists (Sky / A-Plan)?

I'm not sure of your age, but DC5s are far from un-insurable most of the time.

I'm 27 as well and have been getting quotes of about 1900. Postcode is NE1 with 3 years NCB 4 in March and an SP50 (no ban just 3pts) I will have to give Sky/A-Plan a ring though. Would 7k be too much of a dog of a DC5?

'ello ! ... I currently own a '04 Honda Civic type S,
I'm 19, and have (nearly) 2 years experience & no claims...

The inner chav within me is dying to add some modifcations ( exhaust, induction kit, bigger alloys... the usual chavvy stuff :)! )

The only thing putting me off is the dreaded insurance (:@) Anyone had any experience insuring a lightly modded civic, at my age?! or does anyone have an idea of the (rough) addition to my insurance for simple mods & if i'd actually get insured. ( insurance is currently 1.25k, ish )

Thanks a lot.

My pearls of wisdom would be - don't bother on a Type-S. Save your pennies towards buying a Type-R instead.

Baring in mind that the DC5 is nearing 12 years old, £7k should get you one in a great condition. I am looking to sell mine in the next few months (52-plate), it is low mileage in an excellent condition and I hope to get ~ £7500 for it.

The trouble with most insurers is that they don't actually recognise the car since it was only available as a grey import, and their prices reflect that.

Thanks for that, it is food for thought for sure. I need to get my private plate taken off my Mini and the original wheels put back on and will have to put it up for sale and then I can begin looking properly. I've had a look on AT a few times and most on there seem to have dubious body kits on etc.

I'm sorry for starting all the model v model debates too :p

Yay, standard vs modified time. Best go get a video of the turbo Bitch to show you can't compare a Lamborghini to an FN2.

Spoons CRZ runs 150BHP and road tyres, suspension mods.

I know it is slightly unfair but the Type R does stand for racing after all.

But you would know the CRZ has a stiffer body shell than the Type R and the shortest gear throw of any Honda made save for the NSX and S2K.

It also weighs a good 200KG lighter in stock form.

At the end of the day, the Hybrid sends the Type R packing which is pretty hilarious.

Yeah the spoon one was remapped, had Spoon suspension, exhaust, and other bits, also shed 200lbs.
It's impressive they took the hybrid to that level but I bet it would cost a lot to do it!
Would like to see the Spoon FN2 v the Spoon CRZ.

Then again, that CRZ would send a lot of hatches packing in that form.

Not seen the Spoon FN2.

I want Spoon bits for my car over Mugen parts tbh. Cheaper and more "proven" than Mugen. Do love the Mugen kit though.

A similar level of modifaction brings you the Mugen M20 FN2 (not M200). The FN2 in that form is a completely different vehicle even with just 237bhp. Its far more balanced, has completely different suspension settings, camber, toe etc and as a result makes any stock FN2 look positively awful (sad to say). A couple of bolt on mods and light wheels is night and day over stock and the M20 takes those mods even further with a good few KGs shed, better stopping power and much more mid range grunt. The Spoon CR-Z looks to differ per lap by maybe a second over a stock FN2 which in racing terms is more than enough. I should imagine you would lose 5seconds or more moving over the the M20 which would make the Spoon CR-Z look far worse than the stock FN2 does in the same situation.

Too much money needs to be spent on the CR-Z and the FN2 for that to really make it a worthwhile investment.

Say what you want against the CR-Z it isn't a type R wannabe. It is a good looking eco car to chill around in.

The EP3 delivers a rawer driving experience than the FN2 which is what a type R is all about.

I like the CRZ but at the same time it defines Honda's current state of play, a disapointment to what most were hoping was going to be something special

As for the FN2 for me it should be the Type-S and the Type-R should have been the model above it with more power and much less refined, I dont really give a monkeys if it says Type-R all over the FN2 I dont like the badges they iritate me I bought it because its the last of the 4 cylinder high revving engines its a jap marque and its fun to drive whilst being comfy with kit all the same reasons I bought my CTS

which CTS do you have ?

I'm not sure how people can say the FN2 doesn't feel like a proper Type-R - what more do you want ?

perhaps if they took the carpets out, took out the air-con etc - ditched the digital display

then it'd be a Type-R right ?
