Type R and VTEC owners

Borrowed my mates EP3 for the week.

Want the engine & gearbox. Love the Jekyll & Hyde personality of it, doesn't beg you to thrash it constantly like my 205 does but screams to the limiter if and when required :)

Do not want the horrible bumpy ride, tramlining, understeer and weird steering! :(

The engine and gearbox were the only bits about my FN2 that really impressed (once I got past the toys and the spaceship looks and racey seats), an absolute work of art, didnt sound quite as good as I expected but its a lot more muted/refined in the newer car compared to the raw EP3.

Steering was better with the FN2 though, when compared with the EP3 that I briefly drove, but still not much feel, and it felt a bit lardy in the corners. Miles better with FRSU and Mugen suspension though, like a totally different car, it was pretty ace then, but out of the box the handling didn't impress. Never drove an EP3 hard enough to really comment and it wasn't a standard one that I had a spin in either.

If I could get a Honda VTEC engine into my current car I think I'd be in heaven be in a Honda S2000...!

Yeah this one is lowered but probably not had a geo done so that won't help I admit.

That engine & box with a diff, in my 205 GTI please :D

So it needs a diff and some suspension mods.

A frsu with camber adjustment front and back and JDM rear ARB would sort most of the steering feel and tramlining out. Good tyres and a diff gets rid of the under steer.

Then its all happy smiles :)

Driving the Civic all weekend and getting back in the S2000 today reminds me of how good the S2000 and the fact the power never drops off till 9k. :D

Honda need to make another one !

Yeah that made no sense. What was I thinking.

I was saying that if it was valve clearance related, then surely it would be audible from the engine bay?

Been looking at FN2 18s for the FN3 this evening.

Parked next to an FN2 earlier at football and they fill the arches much better

Muffin` now its my turn. I got some extra cash from PPI so rings rod bearings and stem seals will get changed. Cause atm im putting more oil in than Rotary users :D

Mine came with 18s, much better than the 17s:

I don't know about you but I'm going to be about 3 grand lighter than I started the day. Engines on its way, cars on its way from the garage (helpful as ever) and all then oils, filters, coolant and seals ordered to whack in on Saturday. The engines done 20 miles so I've got to really work the dam thing again to get it bedded in.

Honda's

Muffin` ye but you had proper job done on Yours. And it still was ****ed....
I am going for OEM replacement no honing ect... It just needs to last another 10 000 miles cause its 4-5 years of driving for me :P

If i cant find anyone that will do me this job. I just drive this engine till it totally brakes and get some b18c6 or something heh.

Thanks for the info on the track, wasn't aware it was different.

Really didn't like those wheels. Prefer the facelift over those:
*snip*

The Type R silver set alloys really do look good on that colour of car. 19" Blades only seem to look nice on black FNs/FKs so good call on looking for a set of the OEM 18". The 19" M200 could also look nice on that colour of Civic but I havent ever seen this so I could be very wrong. They also fetch a rather large premium too.

There are 3 reasonably nice sets over on another forum, 2 sets with tyres, one set without although onbe set will need changing leaving you with extra expense.

It looks as though the total track width is 20mm thinner on none type R models so to ensure your car had the same look in the arches as the type R you would need 10mm spacers all round and a set of lowering springs to drop the overall car height by 10mm to match the FN2 ride height.

Buying 15mm spacers all round and getting 15/20mm lowering springs would be my call if I was in your shoes :)

I was just thinking this EP3 would ride much better with 16" wheels and higher profile tyres, and just realised some FN2 owners are happy with 19" wheels :/

Might just be what I'm used to I guess, most my cars have been old with 15" wheels and 50 ish profile tyres!
