PAS pump is missing and I "dropped" one of the mout bolts in the garden so I'll have to get that that redo the mounts in order.
It's about 90% done assembly wise, just then comes getting the ignition and fluids sorted, a day probably.
then it's a 5k redline for another 1000 miles![]()
Is this the best thread to ask about Civics? In particular the FN.
70 miles a day commute - reckon a 2.2 iCTDi is the one to get? They all seem to be at a mileage where the DMF might need replacing (depending on use obviously).
The 1.8 doesn't appear to be all that uneconomical - assuming it will do the 40mpg that I read?
Either the 1.8 or ctdi should do you fine, I bought the diesel when I was doing about 15-18k per year but tbh the reason I picked it up is I much preferred the (remapped) drive to the 1.8 which is (imo) all a bit vtec yo...without the go. You should try one though as it is inevitably the more maintenance free engine. I didn't get much above 45mpg so the difference in fuel would be negligible - anyone who gets 60mpg from a 2.2 ctdi must either drive everywhere at 50mph and quarter throttle or live half a mile from motorway and travel 100 miles at 3am so do not expect to achieve anything like that
I really liked my car, it was a one owner example that had been looked after properly and the clutch/fly done a couple of months before I got it - If I was buying another diesel this is what I'd look for. As it was an EX it had a good level of kit too though you'll be going 5 door (i prefer the 3), having been in a friends type S the only thing I'd rather have from it it is the slightly nicer seat material. Their car is probably worth the same if not more as mine was despite being a little older but the thing feels like it's never had a penny spent on it so chose carefully
I'm glad to see you appear to have shaved though!
Good work on sorting it out and changing engines, hope this one lasts.![]()
Ive just skimmed the last couple pages, but have you now got a rebuilt engine in there?
Given the previous issues, are you not tempted with a different run in process?
There are lots of very techie people on Club GTI including some very successful tuners, and one thing they all agree on is running in engines hard and quickly like the method below

Yeah I was pointed to that last time, I've got a tiny warranty but after that I'm on my own. I've seen it mentioned a lot on US forums and they seem to favour it, but they're always quite well off and ready to strip it on a whim![]()
I enjoyed the whole ordeal and it was much simpler than I thought it would be, glad mates helped![]()
