Type R and VTEC owners

DC5 is 350Z money though

But the 350z is nowhere near as engaging though, my mate has one and is selling up to get back into VTEC; completely different driving.

What are the stand-out things to go wrong / look for on DC5, especially one that is 2001?

Leaning more towards it the more I think about it.

and the steering rack if you're being picky

DC5 has proper steering too

Shock as mods 'might' make an EP3 better ;)
A good EP3 with mods will still cost significantly less than a ropey, bottom of the market DC5 which is arguably what 6-8k would get you.

4k gets you a nice EP3 to use as a base platform. an extra £2k would make it a DC5 competitor imho.

a DC5 at the same standard as a 4K EP3 would be easily 8K+

At which point, as has been pointed out by our environmental champion and serial Supra exterminator; 8K would be better invested in much more interesting machinery like a 350z, Evo or an S2000 and not into an EP3 in a posh frock.

Not really. On the road it's been fine but I have has it ages so know it well now.

Elite Vtec veteran fo' sho'

I have driven an S2000 and not died either, which is mildly surprising.

To me it's not picky to have a major part of the experience communicate back to you. BMW agreed with this by making the M5 hydraulic over the rest of the model range. It really lets it down for me, if the EP3 had the DC5 rack we would be living in a different world :( (world peace, low oil prices, pothole free roads etc)

The S2000 steering is a million miles better than the FN3.

Not all epas is the same. The issue with feedback on the S2000 is due to being sat so far away from the wheels

That cost walk doesn't really correlate at resale time though which probably makes the EP3 the more expensive car. Guess you could go down the road of 2nd hand mods that you sell seperate when you move on.

£350 to sort

still not in the region of DC5 money. :)

my point is this;

I am not denying that the DC5 is good. I am not denying that it is better than an EP3.

but realistically, in the real world... is it double the price better?

Realistically IT IS
My opinion below
EP3 --> ****** looking HB that i would never drive cause how it looks. I would rather have EK4 or EG6 ANY DAY over EP3 aka people carrier....
DC5 --> Second best looking coupe honda made (after DC2) You get nice interior ect.

Price hmmm. You buy 8k dc5 and sell it 2 years later for 7k. You buy 4k ep3 and sell it for 3k after 2 years.

Muffin` ordered 4 of those PCV valves from USA after I had a look on oil level after trip to Birmingham and back. Like 300ml gone LOL so its 100% blocked now yet again. Small thing like that and oil goes pass worn piston rings no problems hahaha. Better take 1l of oil to Milton with me this weekend.

Still costs more to buy though, which is the point.

It is irrelevant if they depreciate by the same £££. Whilst that proves the DC5 holds it value better, it overlooks the point that you have to have an extra £4K in the first place!

come off it.

its different, and its better. but its not double the price different, and its not double the price better.

sure its worth a premium. but double?

some serious purchase justification going on from JDM blinkered DC5 owners if they think it is tbh.

Rip on AM for his 'mugen' additions all you want, a DC5 is the embodiment of scene tax.

Would I have one? Yes of course I would, they look fantastic.
Would I pay double what my car is worth for one? hell no.

looking at it subjectively, EP3 aside.

the question was DC5 or S2000

now, a rough estimate on the DC5 at being around 20k new

and the S2000 at 30k new.

surely the S2000 is the more desirable car being a more premium car to start with?
