Type R and VTEC owners

What blubs u lot use for your dipped beam.

I'm after some H-1s but there's some many of them ranging from £1 each to £9. Are the expensive like Philips 12258-XVS2 H1 X-Treme Power 100% Headlight Bulbs ones worth the money?

I just switched to Osram Nightbreaker Plus H1 for both dipped and full beam. Big improvement over standard but apparently they can be a bit hit and miss in terms of longevity. Haven't tried any of the other high power bulbs so couldn't give direct comparisons, but definitely worth the price difference if I get a winter out of them.

Alright guys,

So I have decided its time to sell my VW Scirocco 2.0 TSI GT and get something more affordable. So I am looking at CTDI civics - Diesel im thinking, as I want to save some money. My budget is max £6200. I must say the interior is fantastic in some ive looked at and they look brilliant. any of you lads drive one of these? that could perhaps share some thoughts for a potential buyer?

OH RLY?

How many miles do you do and what's your average commute length? Many motorway miles or long journeyes?

Get an Integra Type-R, become a hard man and pocket the remaining £2k to spend on petrol, alcohol and hookers.

average commute is 20 miles a day and no motorway miles really and hit around 12k yearly. Went and looked at a 1.8 Vtec petrol today (£5400) 40,000 miles 2006. seemed really nice.

Well after knocking the prospect of getting an S2000 on the head - pesky insurance!! - I've stumbled back to having a DC5 at the top of my list. Always been fascinated with VTEC cars have yet to sample it! I know the tegs come at a premium, but talk to me? Is it worth it? The one I have in mind is just under £7k and for its age (2001) it certainly does look tidy and well maintained!

Any other suggestions would be welcomed too! Barely any serious mileage is done at the moment or for the last year (though this may change half way through next year!). The DC5 was coming in a whole £1000 cheaper to insure than the S2k and is at a price I find acceptable (~£750 for those interested).

Background info:
22 in a month
Still using my little 306 that I bought at the time of passing my test when I was 17 and the only other car I've driven for any period of time was a diesel Insignia...
Craving for something with more power, but then again that isn't exactly hard criteria to meet!

Make or break this deal for me!

Dc5 is a better car, will hold its residuals and is more exclusive. Plus it's also much prettier, id have loved one at 2.

This is exactly what's running through my mind. At the end of the day I find EP3s too common and a bit drab in comparison to a DC5. The same price bracket nets bottom of the market but newer cars (purely for example, 2006 BMW 330 with 100k+ miles).

If the insurance was nicer then it would be an s2000, no question. But as it stands, the only thing holding me back is the thought of spending 7k on as 12 year old, albeit a well looked after, car.

strange. dc5 and s2000 insurance is about the same for me.

I have to say, bar a better gear box and a prettier outer shell, there isn't much difference between EP3s and DC5s. anyone who says there is, is frankly lying to you.

sure the DC5 engine is tuned better and has slightly better components, but ultimately this isnt something you will notice when driving it on the roads and it would only make it marginally quicker against an EP3.

weight wise they are quite similar, 30kg from memory, again not something that will impact you massively and if it matters to you that much, take the rear bench out...

im sure stock dc5 vs stock ep3, the teg would bash it every day of the week, but a few grand on well chosen handling mods would easily bring an ep3 up to standard.

fact remains an EP3 and DC5 are similar enough. you would only be considering it for aesthetics, rarity and the steering rack if you're being picky.

suck it up and buy an S2000 if the car is in budget.

if it was me i would be driving all three to see which i prefered.

Appreciate that rjk, well reasoned response! Unfortunately the insurance is what makes the s2000 impossible for me now! And realistically, it is a bit impractical in my situation!

Decisions decisions!

DC5 brakes are likely be far superior, and it has an lsd as standard, but otherwise can't see id be paying the premium they seem to fetch over a good EP3.

Simon, you ever had any brown trouser moments driving the s2000?

Well then, buy something a little more enjoyable then :D

but a few grand on well chosen handling mods would easily bring an ep3 up to standard.

Shock as mods 'might' make an EP3 better ;)

Or just buy a DC2/DC5 and don't drive around in a common as muck breadvan :p
