Type R and VTEC owners

The track was like an ice rink, apparently covered in aviation fuel. You can't see it but the back was breaking away in most corners, would you have me drive faster and risk spinning or ending up off the track?

I drove to my ability behind the wheel, sorry for not hanging the arse end out of a car I've spent a fortune on to please people online.

Next time I'll push harder and send you the bill when the inevitable happens.

I push it when I feel safe to do so, like when it was dry, I wasn't exactly going slow. I've never driven RWD in such poor conditions before, it was a learning experience more than anything. There were faster laps later on in the day but I didn't have the GoPro on all the time.

This seems bizarre, why would they run a trackday on a track covered in aviation fuel?

I don't know, just what was written on another forum. It was however almost like driving on a skid pan.

The etiquette at the HOT/LOT day at Donington was on another level compared to the public day at Combe. I'm friends with one of the organisers, he says anyone driving like a numpty gets banned from future events. Next on the list is Brands Hatch. :)

I'm contemplating putting the S2000 in the garage till March/April. Without sounding stupid, is there anything I should do, or just park it up then start it again when that time comes? I plan on SORN'ing it.

I don't have any power in the garage, disconnecting the battery would disable the alarm wouldn't it, meaning the insurance would be invalid?

I don't know actually, I will check with some insurers. My renewal is on the 20th so it could work out well if I can get cheap SORN insurance for the duration.

Your 330i is a better car though so not sure why you'd swap.

Depends what you want out of a car, for effortless wafting about the BMW is the better car, but for a weekend car with occasional track work the Accord is the better car.

Some people want to drive to work and back Monday to Friday in relative comfort, then go for spirited drives at the weekend.

I had the older Accord and it was brilliant, don't let the size of it put you off, it'll be very capable.

You mean back in your BMW blinkered world?

Someone looking to buy a CL7 is not even going to consider a 330i. They are both 5 door saloons, and that's where the similarities end.

I don't think that's a ridiculous statement - his 330i *is* a better car in my opinion. It's faster, it's got a better engine (Yea, I went there - but I'm happy to justify it and explain why if asked) and it's hardly a badly set up drivers car is it?

And how many CL7 Type R's have you driven? Or is your opinion based purely on statistics written on a bit of paper?

I had many run ins with 330i's when I had my EP3 and DC5 and there was nothing in it, they are pretty much the same speed in a straight line as a CL7, so I don't see how a 330 is faster than a CL7 except maybe a tenth or two in acceleration? I also don't see any official UK performance figures. Plus, down a fast A road, nice UK B road or on track the CL7 would pull a fairly decent gap on the 330i. It's not too dissimilar a car to the FD2 yet that leaves some pretty impressive machinery in its mirrors when you remove dual carriageway races out of the equation.

The CL7 has better economy, it's cheaper to service, it'll be less likely to go wrong than the 330i, it's faster at being a fast car. It has many positives going for it so I find it pretty laughable that you can brandish the 330 as the superior car. Both are extremely good and capable in their own right.

I know the costs, I run a second car myself. I'm just saying that it isn't as easy as just buying another car. There's also unexpected costs to factor in as well in case of failures.

One of the great things about the car for me is the manual 'box and the way it feels. Although for a high HP application such as the above then I understand the upgrade.

I had been planning on getting some new 2 piece discs, but they're pretty expensive and I have tax to pay this month so I decided against it for another month or two.

Took the car for a drive last weekend and the brake pedal didn't feel nice at all. There was a judder in line with wheel speed.

Looks like I'll be getting the discs after all.

Performance Friction 2 piece discs for the front and Dixcel FCR FP discs for the rear on their way. I've also ordered PBS pads all round to take as spares to Spa.

What lovely cold weather for fitting them, so I may limp the car to a local garage I trust.
