Type R and VTEC owners

So after a few weeks of being perplexed by this noise from my passenger rear, I've taken everything apart twice, checked my brakes, checked my wheels, checked the heat shield three times. Caught it today. The heat shield was the cause, after rolling the car forward the shield was moving too freely and that's why it didn't look like it was catching when the car was being inspected.
Bent it back out of the way and tightened it down so there is no play in it and the noise is gone thankfully.

I love it when fixes are easy but troubleshooting that was a pain in the backside.

Got some dixcel ES pads I'm going to put on next week. My rears are looking a bit low and the fronts aren't far behind. Hopefully they will be less dusty than the DS2500. I'm just worried performance won't be as good as they are a fair bit cheaper and more of a fast road pad rather than a circuit pad.

Hi i test drove a honda civic vtect SE 1.4 and wasnt happy with it.

The roof was too low in the drivers seat and had to lower the seats near to the bottom and i am not even a tall person.

The next thing was that the civic was quite slow and accelerating. barely better then my 2008 nissan micra 1.2

Unless it was set to Economy or something, but the salesmen diddnt say it was or not.

Of course its going to be slow, its a small underpowered engine that belongs in a supermini, the Civic is a bit too big and heavy for it. You want to try the 1.8 assuming you are after a 8th or 9th gen Civic.

yea after the 2015/2016 model mate.

i also tested out the a3 sportsback with same 1.4 engine and it was more snappier and faster than the civic i tried.

they are all NA apart from the Type R to the best of my knowledge.

you are comparing two very different cars there though fella.

The engine and characteristics of the engine are different.

Try the 1.8, it has plenty of go and returns good real world economy. Otherwise you can wait around a year for the new 10th gen Civic which will come with all new turbocharged EarthDream engines including a 1.5 turbocharged engine which will probably fit your bill.

both hatchback 5 door cars with same engine size? What am i missing?

the 1.4turbo in the audi is designed to do a few things. the first is that people who dont know about cars see 1.4 and think, 'oh wow that is a small engine, must be cheap to run'. The engine is designed to provide good power whilst returning a decent economy figure. The audi A3 is marketed as a premium hatch so the entry level has to have a power unit that matches the area of the market it is targeted at even at the lowest spec.

the civic on the other hand is an affordable hatch designed for economy. No turbo means less to go wrong and the 1.4 engine is designed to return good mpg figures. There isn't really much else to it, it isn't a competitor to the audi but then the price points of the two cars should really highlight this to you.

as mentioned, a 1.8 civic would be more akin to the 1.4TFSI audi engine but the interior and features of the audi will be better no doubt. you pay the money for that though of course.

Cool ok thanks mate.

one thing to note though is that the honda civic is only 2/3k cheaper then an audi with same power engine though?

It seems that if you wan the power u need 1.8 or Type R which is around teh 30k and you might as well look at a merc/audi/bmw then?

DC2 update lads

DC2 wooop :D

My update from yesterday.

1. Place battery back into 9 month hibernated Teg.
2. Doesn't start.
3. Wheel outside garage, block other cars on our drive.
4. Still can't get to start, realise need to go pickup curry so try to move it out way.
5. Have curry and beers, think about Teg and it could be battery/grounding problem.
6. Slightly boozy check battery terminals, -ve has some corrosive substance on it, both the terminal clamp and terminal.
7. Clean up with wire brush.
8. Starts first time........ Argh
9. Puts back in garage, goes for more beer and some Star Wars Battlefront :D

Need to get the new CL pads and MTEC discs on, then get her MOT'd ready for some knockhill fun. Standing for this long has made her very stiff, be it doors, windows, seals. Meh!

yes and no. someone looking at a new typeR civic will be unlikely looking at a premium german hatch too

Why not, loads of fast hatches around that kind of level.

Though someone looking at a premium german hatch probably couldnt get over the R's halfords styling.
