Type R and VTEC owners

As Simon says, the LSD will increase grip in most situations, you do not need to be driving it hard for it to take effect. What tyres were on the FN2?

On the FN2 I had ASY II, and the FK I changed to Pilot SS. I used to sometimes just get rooted to the spot in the wet with the FN.

My Type-R got written off Saturday :(

Absolutely gutting.

Some idiot pulled out of their drive into a main road without looking.

Ouch, it's a real pain to deal with insurance stuff too. Can be a lot of hassle so hope it goes easy.

The difference will be the diff then, as much as I dislike F1A2 they are pretty good in the wet.

Yes that is why I got them. On a plus, they lasted a lot longer than my first set on the FK2 Conti Sport 6, 3000 miles.

Yeah the CS6 are not lasting long. Lads on TRO are replacing them with Pilot Sport 4 and Super Sports/Pilot Sport 4S and have positive things to say.

Cheers, they have offered me £1900 for the car, seems low if I'm honest. I'm looking at ones on sale and I can't get one as nice as this for any less than £2500.

It's (was :( ) a 2002 (52) Honda Civic Type-R EP3, the one with the aircon. Completely standard. High milage with 130000, but I'd buy another with this mileage in a heartbeat if I could find as nice an example for the price tbh.

They have given me a 1.0 Astra as a hire car for a week though so yipee :/

Cheers,

G

Who's the insurer?
If it's third party fault then keep pushing to be in at least the same condition/mileage vehicle as you had before the crash.. They've no excuse to not do that..

We are both with Admiral and the accident was her fault entirely. They don't offer a replacement car, just a cheque.

Because they haven't offered enough to replace it I'm considering leasing, but my budget is small as I have to get 2 cars, a big one for the Mrs and whatever for me. We have between £300 and £350 total for both a month but you can't get much for that. Considering a Seat Ateca which I can get for like £185 a month, but then that only leaves between £115 and £165 for me :/

Sad times.

As above, reject it. They'll come back again with an improved offer after "referring to their engineers" 7 days later.

I was with Admiral too when they made me some very insulting offers for my write-off. It was impossible for me to buy the same model car again with ANY mileage/condition for the value they offered.

I finally got somewhere when I started throwing the words complaint to ombudsman around, still not quite what I wanted, but I just about broke-even when I bought the car back and sold the salvage on to somebody who then repaired it (was CAT C)

Might be worth seeing how much they'll sell it back to you for and then selling it on to a breaker/salvage to get that extra.

Reject the offer.

I emailed then this morning:

I've been looking to find a replacement for this car online at the price you said you would give me for mine. I'm struggling to find one that's not already been in an accident, not damaged or not with other issues.

My car was awesome and I'd love to replace it with one like it, but for this money it's not going to happen.

I would therefore like to reject your first offer of £1900 and ask for more. £2500 seems like the going rate for a good example.

There is one on auto trader for £2500 which has done 15,000 more miles than mine, has less MOT etc and is the same age.

I think this would be a fairer price for mine. The versions with the aircon, like mine is, are much rarer and more valuable than the ones without and I don't think this has been kept in mind with your valuation.

It's also very rare to find one without any modifications and mine was kept 100% factory standard so could also demand a premium for that.

Please let me know if you can do better.

Thank you,

May get me nowhere at all but who knows.

I may be better to phone them though. So I'll probably do that tonight.

Yeah, that sounds good, they didn't actually ask me to do any research in finding similar cars, but this isn't always the case.
Probably worth screenshotting and saving the autotrader examples you find.

Also factor in full service history (if you had that).

Personally, I'd not be going for anything less than what the car was valued at pre-accident if it was a third party fault.

Email + follow-up call is best, just so there is a record of what you've written to them.

Hope you get it sorted soon and that it isn't as painful as my claim with them!

EDIT: If you do buy it back then I could point you in the direction of a buyer if you need a hand and want to avoid the ebay jokers.

I can't remember what I said it was worth when I took the insurance out, otherwise I'd be tempted to say something like "I'm paying a premium on a car that's worth 4k, you knew that when I took my policy out. Therefore you give me 4k back or you're been changing me too much for the last x years"

I tried that one and they just said the pay-out is always based on current market valuation due to fluctuating values.

In fairness, I did try fiddling the values up and down when getting quotes and the premium always came out the same.

"Market Value" words they ram down your throat, use them to your advantage.
When My focus got written off I went back to them after being unable to replace it for the same money and explained they'd not given me a fair market value, got an additional cheque :)

I was told they couldn't give me x amount as I'd only paid x amount for the car.
I asked them what if the car was a gift, so I paid nothing, they didn't really have a reply for that haha
