Type R and VTEC owners

Went to Grinspeed for a 2nd time now for more mods to my car.

One of them being a new rocker cover in a blue,

Yeah I'd be asking them for examples of cars that you can go and buy for that value :( also provide them the links of all of the ones that match what yours was with the prices showing that 2050 is not a fair market value

They initially said £1900 or £1700+car if it's cat C or £1500+car for cat D

 this could be a win!?

How bad was the damage to your car? Got any pics? If they're offering to give you £1850+your car and it needs a new bonnet, bumper, headlight and radiator - go for it! Second hand parts are so cheap these days that you could make a good bit of gold out of this.

I can't seem to get multi-quote working and don't have the patience to try at the moment, but it was 7 days ago.

I've had a look on autotrader and there are 8 on there that are 2002 so I was tempted to send them something like this...

On Autotrader at this point in time there are 8 Honda Civic Type-R’s which are the same age as mine:

1) is £1,650 and has the ABS and engine management lights on, doesn’t have aircon and has done more miles than mine.

2) is £1950 and is again NOT an aircon model. It also has rips in the seats and an exhaust rattle.

3) is £2,195 and actually looks ok, but again is NOT an aircon model. Mine was.

4) is £2400 and actually looks quite nice, around the same mileage as mine. Yet again this is not an aircon model.

5) is £2500 and is the first one which actually has got aircon. It has done 15,000 miles more than mine.

6) is £2,995 and is very nice, has lower mileage than mine, but yet again, does NOT have aircon.

7) is £3500, has half the mileage of mine, but yet again NO aircon.

7) is £3695, lower mileage again, but yet again NO aircon.

I don’t know if you’re picking up on the trend here, but it’s impossible to find an Aircon Model for less than £2500.

This is why I was saying I would accept no less than £2500 as payment for mine.

*In fact if we want to be picky about it, which you are making me be, by making me do all this time-wasting research instead of just paying me out what the car is worth.... my car has done 130,000 miles which is 9.7% less miles than the one that’s currently £2500. So I’ll add 9.7% to the price I want, meaning I now want £2,742.50 please. */edit not actually going to put this bit, that's just how I feel.

/edit I've not sent this information to them at all yet and it's a bit of an emotional response because I'm butthurt about everything at the moment.

They have told me it's Cat C, and that it will cost £3000 to repair. I don't have the time, skill or physical ability (I have arthritis) to fix it myself to be honest. I was tempted to keep the car to sell it on to someone who does though if I'm honest.

Front bumper wrecked, off-side front alloy smashed, nearside alloys both scuffed to hell. Lots of liquid leaked out so presumably smashed the washer fluid bottle. Right headlight smashed. Bonnet re-usable. I've not looked under it as the car was taken away. Front right wheel looks further back than it should be. Still turns over just fine. That's kind of all I know really. If I asked the insurance company would they have to tell me?

/edit I've emailed the company who have assesed the car to see what else the can tell me.

I've also phoned my mate who sold me the car, who just sells Type-Rs to see if he wants the wreckage for parts.

They were the same as mine mainly; non-facelift.

I sent all the examples across and Admiral have said "further to your recent email regarding the vehicle valuation, unfortunately we are unable to increase the offer as we are at the maximum valuation for your vehicle."

Ask them what they're basing their valuations on and the procedure to submit a complaint.

When they eventually mention "trade price" you want to re-iterate you aren't a dealer and can't buy cars at "trade price".

Sorry to hear they're being as difficult with you as they were with me! I expect if the third party insurers were not also themselves they wouldn't be settling for what they're offering you!

Thanks for the advice I've done that. I spoke to them on the phone about it last night and explained that I honestly don't think I'm being unreasonable and that I need justification. I've said if they can show me one for that price I'll take a cheque, but if they can't it's not enough.

So the Civic I sold... the lad started off well, he actually went to the trouble of having a full respray and it looked lovely. Yet bit by bit is ruining it day by day with naff additions. Huge bean can and home made diffuser today :D His instagram is littered with it doing burnouts. Hopefully it will blow up soon lol
