Type R and VTEC owners

Do this, they have stiff sidewalls, perfect for a type R.
Gibbo has them on his M3 and raves about them. They have great wet weather performance too.

Will be the next tyres that go on my S2000 pending a drive of his M3 to see if I like them.

well they shouldn't be really. They are a good all round sports tyre that are above average in the wet but wouldn't be fitting them to a type R.

not really. the FN2 isnt really as compliant as I would have liked it to be but I put that down to the rock hard stock suspension rather than the OE fit tyres.
I drove two FN2s on the same day a few months back, one with F1AS2 and one with RE050As and the difference was huge.

I can imagine that a swap to uprated/progressive springs and keeping the OE fit tyres would result in better ride quality whilst keeping the responsiveness and communication high.

Unfortunately not (suspension), a definite improvement in front end control, nothing of note in terms of ride improvement.

but you would get an improvement in front end control by using tyres with stiffer side walls?

the FN2 I have driven with eibach pros felt much more refined under normal driving than the stock suspension.
 
I can't honestly notice any discernable different in ride quality now (it's still terrible) that they've been on for a while. Perhaps it's the fact the original springs were 6 years old and saggy.

I can't honestly really comment on the sidewalls other than to say I'm happy with how it behaves on the conti's. On previous cars I've only ever really noticed a difference through sidewall softness when pushing very hard. Day to day suspension freshness has a (understandably) much bigger impact. If I've still got it when they're done I'll stick something else on and compare

What engine oil to go for on the EP3 Type R?

My brother has ordered some for his car, forget which make, but it says 'For Turbo Diesel engines' on the front so its clearly not right. He's only using it on the road so I'd rather there was something thicker in it to preserve the engine.

Recommendations?
 
Buy from Honda, it isn't overly expensive from the likes of cox

Alternatively castrol edge - which is possibly what they use anyway

Turbo diesel on the label is just marketing. You can use it no problem in a Petrol Honda.

I use Castrol Edge Turbo Diesel 5W-40 in my S2000 as recommended by Simon on here and by many people on S2Ki.

The oil your brother has chosen may have been picked by him due to the specifications of it. Depends how clued up he is really as he may have just purchased it by mistake.

Cant really offer more insight until you can say which specific type it is though.

simon, I cant see that SKU on opie oils anymore? has it been replaced mate?

Still sold but maybe UK decided to have just the one EDGE 5W-40.

Will be the new FST Titanium formulation now. Both this new oil and the previous carried ACEA C3 which is what Honda UK recommend for K20A (and F20C)
