Ubisoft - How much longer can they get away with this 'downgrading'?

The same Division that is held up as an example of one of the best looking PC games on threads here regularly?

You can say what you like about the gameplay but from a technical point of view all the 'downgrade' and 'bullshot' hysterics proved to be just plain false.

Watch Dogs was a shambles and it's stuck Ubi with the downgrade meme when the reality is it's really not justified anymore.
It was not proven false the division we have now has downgraded graphics over what was shown at the shows before it came out. Not only that but some of the advanced graphics features are still broken and unusable 1 year after the game has been out. The Division is one of the best looking PC games but its a classic case of UBI downgrading

Eh yeah... the thread was made about ubi and all the discussion is about ubi... go look in other threads like this (which weren't made just for ubi) as well as the witcher 3 and you will see that I have hammered the witcher 3, no mans sky etc. etc. just as much as ubi's games. The difference is, ubi's downgrades are far worse and it "consistently" happens with all their games...

then either dont bring it up or dont complain when your point is countered. it was you who mentioned other devs and yet still continue to do so.

As for your second excellently well put point... lol, I am bringing these points up yet neither of you 2 are addressing them, always just throwing silly lines like that and "circle jerk, tears" etc. :D

show me where i said that.

Do you by any chance also work for ubi?

wow.

Look, points have already been made. You're not going to change my opinion of ubisoft or expo trailers. I'm not silly; I dont form any opinions on them and i dont waste my time complaining about them.

With the many alpha and close/open beta phases these days there really is no excuse for anyone claiming they've been misled. By all means continue your OMG UBIDOWNGRADE circlejerks if that's what makes you happy but don't expect anyone to listen.
When major graphics features has been broken in game for 1 year we have been mislead. How can you say otherwise?

Sorry you are clearly talking rubbish and you need to go to spec savers, there has been no downgrade at all...

:p :o

The fact he even said that is just laughable and makes the rest of his points completely mute, downgrade claims are "false" lmao...

Urgh.............. Because those other developers I mentioned have never shown false trailers like what ubi, CDPR etc. have shown.... If it makes you feel better, from now on I will also include those developers along with ubi in my points about downgrades...

Again, my main question/point is, if those companies like DICE, rockstar can show accurate trailers before the game is released then why can't ubi (and others) do the same?

Rockstar, rocksteady, blizzard etc. are perfectly capable of showing accurate footage of what the final game will be like months/years before release therefore.... ubi, CDPR etc. are also capable of showing accurate footage before the final game is released.... but they "choose" not to for whatever reason, be it to generate more hype/interest in their game and as a result cash in on more pre-orders.

How is that point so hard to grasp....

The circle jerk comments are referring to mid gens posts as mynight has also picked up on, never get a proper answer other than "circle jerk, tears"...

Well you are certainly coming across as very defensive for them and thus could also be seen as "wasting" your time by defending them...

It is super weird this fetish you have for Ubisoft, calm down.

There are more important things in life than video game trailers.

If they bother you that much, just don't watch them.

You crack me up :D

Like I said, I don't care any more for any type of trailer, no matter who it is by or what game it is, as games these days very rarely live up to expectations and more often than not fall flat on their face come release day.

I just find it amazing that people defend these shenanigans, I can understand your view point since you work for the most renowned company for doing said act but still, it is just mind boggling.

PS. Still waiting for answers to these:

Why you think all the claims about division being downgraded were false...

Why some other developer companies can show an accurate version of their final game 2+ years before release yet ubi (and other companies like CDPR) can't...

Or will they be ignored once again? :D

Its not just the trailers its the broken graphics features in the game even after a year.

Nexus surely you really cant be that bothered about the downgrading of the visuals as your running a 7+ year cpu and a 290 gpu? Come on dude, I understand we all want the best visuals possible but games like The Division look nice and are still hard to max out on todays hardware.

The way I see it as long as the game runs well, looks half decent and has good game play I am happy. :)

I run division more or less maxed out except for shadows and aa and still get a min of 50 FPS with DX 12 now, with DX 11, I have to drop a fair amount more settings and FPS would drop to the 40s.

In fact all games still run very well on my PC especially when a low level API is available, I only really have to drop aa and shadows and for the rare demanding game, from ultra preset to high.

Completely agree with your last paragraph, like I said, I don't care if visuals aren't that good, for me, it is more the principle and I just find it amusing those defending the downgrades :p

Edit:

And as mentioned earlier with watch dogs, a lot of the features and graphics which were turned back on via mods and the config files had little to no impact on performance.

What are you referring to? Got any screenshots showing the issues?

Can't say that I've noticed any graphical issues with the division.
If you turn all the settings to max like Ambient Occlusion with HBAO+ you suddenly lose half the static lights, lose dynamic lights and a whole bunch of effects disappear. Everything goes super dark and it looks like a game from 10 years ago. Basically the high end graphics settings are broken.

Ah doesn't sound too good that!

I don't have everything maxed and I hate HBAO+, it might look nice at first but it creates shadows on everything when it shouldn't be.

Just curious as to what are the broken graphic features? I have been playing the division since day one and not seen any.

Anyone that pre orders a game nowadays deserves all the broken, unfinished, graphically downgraded games going. It takes 2 minutes to check reviews on the game and how it performs on similar hardware to yours.

On max settings with Ambient Occlusion on and shadows on max with HBAO+, the game is unplayable. Basic light sources are broken and missing it’s so dark you can stand next to a table with a light on it and not be able to see 70% of what’s in the room. On max settings The Division graphics are broken and look worse then a 10 year old game. Turn the settings just down from max just a little and the game goes from looking terrible to stunning. Its crazy how on max settings it looks x10 worse then on just below max.

Absolutely.

Was having a discussion with a friend the other day, he was arguing the point that this shouldn't be happening in the first place. That we shouldn't be but in the position where we can buy anything less then the advertised product. A bit of an idealist perspective if you ask me. We have to deal with what we have. We KNOW that developers have the capacity to lie to us through gameplay trailers etc. so we HAVE to be responsible consumers.

Don't get overly excited, check for dodgy looking review embargos (yes, Bethesda BS included) and NEVER pre order. Whens the last time you heard of a game selling out day one? If you use key sites to get the game cheaper beforehand, just wait and see! You'll loose a tenner at most? If you're that tight for cash, why are you putting down money on a game that's not even been reviewed yet? Have a little conviction else you've no right to complain.

Again, no-one is being lied to.

Choosing to believe what they're selling two years before release is your own fault, otherwise accept that what you get shown is almost certainly going to change. Many people know and accept this.

This seems to be common practise for Ubisoft.

I just don't buy Ubisoft (or EA) games any more. Because they are mostly just **** and the same thing over and over. After they stopped selling on Steam they were dead to me.

That's not true as we have been lied to as features like Ambient Occlusion are being sold as part of the game but UBI are not bothering to fix it and its never worked. This isn't about 2 years before release, this is about release features being broken a year after release. What we have been shown as part of the release game isn't working.
