UEFA Champions League 2010/11 Matchday 5 *** Spoilers ***

Suarez and fair play, I honestly didn't care about the whole handball at the world cup, its a reaction, he didn't have time to deliberate over what he did, thats life, 99% of other players would have done the same. The "cannibal of Ajax" situation is completely different, biting a player in the neck for no reason is just madness.

The Alonso sending off was better than the Ramos one, he did 6-7 false starts for his run up to the ball. it is overly pathetic level of cheating, and Alonso frankly hasn't been anywhere near good enough to warrant being a must have player on the pitch, Ramos, they don't have another right back so you can almost understand. But a stupid handball, or pulling someone back for a cynical stop would be just as easy and less ridiculously obvious.

There is a level of sportsmanship you should have to adhere to, think both should get a two game ban to send a message. Whats the point of yellow cards and bans for repeat offences if players can pick and choose how to serve the ban by doing it before a pointless game.

Anyway, Cesc out for 3 weeks or so it seems, yippee, the way the rest of the team is playing(did anyone even notice Nasri after he came on the pitch?) the next 3 weeks could kill our season. Who wants to bet that when he's "fit" again he'll be rushed straight back in, play 88minutes of the next 3-4 games and tweak his hamstring again.

This is like the 10th time Wenger has overplayed Cesc when he KNOWS he has a problem and its backfired, at what point do you decide risking it all for one not important game is not worth it. Champs league, league cup final, last game of the season where a win could get you the title, of course, stupid group game in the CL, not yet midway through the league, utterly ridiculous decision.

oh god those sending off were so funny, alonso was funny but Ramos was even funnier, shaking the refs hand how blatant do you want it. Never the less real Madrid are looking excellent and if ronaldo can keep his form they can go very far in the competition.

I can see why it was done but it makes a mockery of the system really as it was so obvious...

UEFA should throw a 2 game ban at them as someone else said ;)

LOL @ Mourinho and his underhanded tactics of getting his players sent off....pathetic just pathetic...i can see the point of Alonso and Ramos doing it but come on thats just being overly blatant and makes a mockery of this so called fair play rules.

Saying that im going to stick my neck out and say Real will probably win the CL, other than them i can see Barca perhaps winning it too but my money is saying Real for the CL this yr....they look too damn good at the moment.

Maybe UEFA will make an example of them and give them 2 game bans instead of 1, the laws of the game are there to punish, not to be manipulated so obviously to benefit you. UEFA clearly will do nothing though.

I doubt it, maybe there should be though. If only they'd done it over the course of the second half I'm sure it wouldn't have been noticed, the manner in which it was done though was a big '**** you, I can do whatever I want' to UEFA though.

Is there a rule against being deliberately sent off though?

I think a couple players did it in the champions league a year or two ago, far less blatant though, think maybe Juninho for Lyon? Think he got fined, and no extra suspension which hardly sets a president. Its like Ferrari getting 100,000 for having team orders, nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

So they can carry out his ban for their last group game, otherwise their cards would have carried over to the knockout stage. I think.

i'm still confused. why would he want to get sent off?

They will miss the next group game through suspension, but they will have a clean slate for the nockout stages, whereas they would still be on a booking and on a tightrope if they didn't get the booking last night.

Looking at Werder Bremens recent form it is very poor. Defense looks pretty bad.

Werder Bremen 2 - 3 Nürnberg
Werder Bremen 0 - 2 Twente
Stuttgart 6 - 0 Werder Bremen
BWerder Bremen 0 - 0 Eintracht
Schalke 04 4 - 0 Werder Bremen

I'm sure Spurs will make a meal of it though, should be a good game to watch.

Hmm which game to watch? I saw the first Utd Rangers game and to say I was perplexed with a 0-0 draw was an under statement. That said it was early and cautious, maybe tonight will be a little more exciting. Spurs though? Probably a more equal/exciting game?
