***UEFA Champions League/Europa League 2010/11 Matchday 2***

Good result for the Spuds...wasnt expecting Twente to roll over like that..shame really as i thought Twente were supposed to be a good side.

To be fair the score did help flatter them. They got a few big decisions their way as well earlier on in the game. Being the home side I thought they did deserve three points, but not sure whether Twente ought to have lost.

thing is, Man Utd could have played for another 90mins and never scored. except for hernandez. it was only him who looked likely to make any impact or actually score a goal once berbatov had run out of energy.

thats not a positive thing to say about a team whos philosophy has always been built around attack.

Yep seems so reading the papers today...they had 3 penalties go their way and VDV got sent off after scoring a goal.

Only the first pen was dodgy. And even then, there was still wrestling from the defender.

Three points well deserved with 10 men for a long period.

But if people can detract from it, they will...

The fact that VdV was off was here nor there, that was the right decision, in fact that should have made it down to nine (Huddlestone) from earlier on in the game. Your second penalty was almost a carbon copy of an appeal by Twente, either both should have been given, or neither. But yours was, and theirs wasn't. Nobody's detracting away from anything, from a neutral's point of view you got several dodgy refereeing decisions your way which had a serious impact on the result.

It was hard to prove in real time but it was as clear a red card you'll see for ages, easy to say with a slow motion, zoomed in camera I guess, but there's 5 experienced men on the pitch who between them, should be able to see these things.

Here's Graham Poll's opinion.

Summary: Huddlestone should have seen red, vdV should have been allowed to retake his missed penalty and all three penalties were the correct decision. No mention of Crouch's alleged handball. I assume he thought it was such a blatant non-penalty that it wasn't worth mentioning.

Can someone else let him know that sentence makes zero sense

Ta

it makes no sense if you have no idea about football.

the fact of the matter is that we had no cutting edge. we never looked like scoring before he came on. barring one effort from berbatov.

If we did not bring on hernandez i couldnt see us scoring a single goal in another 90minutes of dross football. thats how cavalier our first team is.

Or it was a crap, short article in an English newspaper where it's been missed out? ;)

Anyway, I stand by what I said before.

And the Hudd incident was incredibly hard to prove intent in real time.

Lol please! :p

Enjoy your first Champ's League win as you wish.

Teams win by this fashion all the time, heck Arsenal might this weekend.

I thought Man U were quite average last night, Hardly remember Cesar making a save.

Valencia went bold by bringing in the extra striker and it looked to have worked out, They put in some cracking balls into the box.

Fergie was overly negative i thought even though your away to Valencia, The only players in that team sheet last night who could do anything remotely special were Berbatov and Nani, The rest are negative/workmanlike players.

Especially Park, He has zilch going forward.

No way are United good enough to win the Champions League, They will get absolutely obliterated by a team who holds onto the ball well and distributes similarly.

Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson, Park = Negative players

Fergie better hope Scholes is fit throughout the season, He's the only midfielder he has who remotely has a footballing brain and can do things that most others can only dream of, Without him they're absolutely useless at creating chances.

i dont know, anderson did pretty well especially considering it was his first game back for like umpteem months

however, he is better where scholes sits as opposed to playing just off berbatov.

however, carrick, fletcher, park are all pretty useless going forward. park has no control, no nouse, no real extra turn of pace. no skill. fletcher is just a runaroundlikeaheadlesschicken. i nearly had a fit in front of the tv when he tried to take the ball on the half way line and instead of being positive, started to run back towards goal. got overpowered and outpaced by the valencia guy who got the ball:/ it was utter hopelessness at its finest.

carrick? 18 million? oh dear. at least fletcher was youth and low wages and at least park was cheap and is so ambitionless that he feels that he has made it simply because he now plays for man u. so he is happy to bench warm and play a bit part role when aplicable.

A bright note from last night atleast in terms of Man U i thought was Rafael, He played quite well. Never understood why the dope that is O'Shea gets in ahead of him most games.

United's right hand side usually does nothing going forward, Valencia/Nani all alone up against a wide midfielder and the left back, Whereas last night Rafael was overlapping Nani at every opportunity.

Raf did okay.

except he got caught out a few times being nowhere near his man. one time Nani made the running and JUST about got to his man. and one occasion Rafael popped up in advance of Park? on the opposite end of the pitch and when park inevitably lost it, they broke and had a decent chance as i remember,

Well Roy has chosen a strong liverpool side for tonight so i expect a win, Not so sure about starting Torres however, Glad to see kuyt playing sure he will enjoy his first return home!
