UEFA Champions League/Europa League 5/6/7 April 2016 *** Spoilers ***

Its a proper shame for atletico. A video ref cant come soon enough i think. Games with so much at stake are being ruined by inconsistant refs. They need help

ffs, if they aren't going to put numbers forward for a freekick, why kick it into the box, why not just pass it and hold possession for a while, so stupid. Also a dive by Messi there, pushed the ball left and then jumped into the player straight ahead of him, made zero effort to go after the ball.

Haha..steve says suarez shouldnt have got a red. Well torres shouldnt of then. Bizarre hypochrisy from him. Feel sorry for athletico. Game ruined by a rubbish ref

This is the referee that sent off Vidic for pretty much nothing. Ball was in the air, both players went in high, neither players studs were high until the went past each other. Pretty inconsistent considering he's regarded as a top referee.

There should be at least 10 minutes of added time with the amount of timewasting/playacting going on, bet it's the standard 3 though

This could easily be 10 v 8 with the amount of awful tackles Madrid have made.

Maybe, but an fairly harsh sending off, not that harsh but a little, coupled with blatant ignoring of Suarez being a **** is a huge reason for a lot of the second half tackles from Atletico. If it was 10 vs 10 they wouldn't be as angry as they are nor as desperate.

I know a lot of people on here hate Barca, and they do seem to get lucky with the amount of decisions that go their way, but Atletico are just as bad in their own way, if not worse. They go in very recklessly in lots of challenges and they're lucky not to get more players sent off and injure opponents more often. Plus I don't like the style of football they play against the big teams, it might be effective but it's boring to watch.

ah well, not in bad shape for the 2nd leg considering a 1-0 win will be enough. Atleti more than capable of taking them at home.

Part of Barcas game plan is to **** off the opposition. They do that by making little niggly challenges, diving all the time and generally trying to influence the ref and wind up the other team.

The result of that is that the other team do put in stupid challenges and then the ref already thinks that Barca are being fouled lots and comes down hard on them.

Oh yeah, I'm not disputing that, but the same thing happens when Atleti play any of the really big sides. Sure it's a bit more exaggerated against their Spanish opposition, but I don't think people should let them off and simply say that Barca are at fault for winding them up.

Yea but funnily enough, there was none of it against PSV in the previous round. Barca do seem to be instrumental with winding the opposition up.

But that's because PSV aren't a 'big' side, Atletico considered themselves the bigger team in that contest. It happens when Atleti play Real too, and yeah I know that's a derby so it's a bit different, but it just doesn't seem right that Barca get so much more hate on here than Atletico when both teams are just as bad as each other.

Barca and Madrid get far more favourable refereeing than almost every other team in every game I see them play in. When they play against each other its almost as much of a contest to see who can cheat the most as it is a game of football.

Difference is the Atleti guys dont seem to go down like theyve been shot. They dish it out but they can take it, Barca dish out but dont seem to be able to take it. Tbh..its just these spanish games are always like it. Rolling about on the floor to get the other booked or sent off. You see it a lot in el classico n stuff

I guess it's an English attitude thing. Personally I don't think going in recklessly on the opposition is any better than play-acting, but it seems to particularly upset us Brits. Some of those Atletico challenges tonight were really poor. Yes it's a competitive game and their gameplan was to disrupt play as much as possible to stop Barca getting into a rhythm, but some of those tackles could have hurt players, and lots of them were very cynical.

Also, it's not like Atletico were innocent of rolling around on the floor making the most of things, there were several occasions when they went down pretty theatrically to time waste.

I don't find them boring to watch at all. I love absoultely everything about Atleti as a football club. Half tempted to move to Madrid and support them, tbh.

Can you imagine the reaction from Alba or Alves if they had been on the end of that kick out from Suarez? He lucked out that it was Juanfran. Wonderful player but if there's any justice in the world he'll pull his hammy against Sociedad.
