UEFA Champions League/Europa League ** Spoilers ** [27/28/29 September 2016]

Its only Basel, so don't want to get carried away, but we've not played a half of football like that in years. Forget 3-0 against United, forget 3-0 against Chelsea, we've been absolutely outstanding in this game - if it wasn't for some great saves the game would be dead and buried.

Basel has never lost on british soil apparently

Good performance from us last night, caught the highlights and was pretty impressed with the way we dominated them. Walcott seems to be finally coming of age, scoring goals now which is about time. It's taken him long enough lol.

Could have been a few more goals had we been more clinical. But meh happy with the result otherwise.

Hopefully we can keep the momentum going in the CL and in the league.

Right thing to do, get him out of the spotlight for a while, plenty of games left in the season to have an impact.

interesting, Rooney on the bench again.

Mourinho talked about him in the press conference yesterday, said he'd just recovered from a back injury and wasn't going to be starting to protect him from the media in case he had a bad game because of it. Hopefully he was being truthful and it doesn't mean he'll be starting vs Stoke.

Southampton poor, just look like they can't be bothered. Hopefully going to end up with a point but really really poor up front. Surprised Long isn't trying to prove a point more given the form Austin is in.

A good injury might be exactly what he needs. :)

I'll be surprised if this is an easy game, especially as Fellaini and Rojo are a bit weak. I like Fosu-Mensah.

I'm not worried about Fellaini with how he's played for most of this season so far but Rojo is a concern, even against a weak team like this. Fosu-Mensah needs a good game after his last crappy one, he's better than what he put in there.

I am as Fellaini is average at best, should have started Carrick instead.

Is still interesting to see him on the bench, was Mourinho really planning to play him or is it another excuse for him not starting? At the weekend didn't he make a big deal about him being rested because he was tired or something and gave the impression the excuse was he's not at the point he can play midweek and the weekend.

Dropping Rooney is obviously the correct decision but did Mourinho drop him or did he really just rest him. How much he plays him in the rest of the season will be very interesting. Basically two games isn't close to enough to know Mourinho's intention particularly as he's making short term excuses for not playing him.

Fellaini has been awful all season, a lot of people were saying both Fellaini AND Rooney had been okay, largely because they won games with both playing. Fellaini still plays slow as hell and IIRC, was he not involved in that back pass that led straight to a goal? Was that maybe only the community shield or one of the early league games. Fellaini and Rooney were jointly responsible for how slow and insipid the Utd midfield was. Them winning games against mostly poor opposition doesn't mean he didn't play badly.

Fellaini ha s played as **** as always. He's just further back so the impact is less noticeable when you're not pinging it at his head constantly as a tactic. He's still anti-football and a liability
