UEFA Euro 2012 - Group D - ** spoilers ** (England, France, Sweden, Ukraine)

We played in an entertaining and exciting game of football, has to be the shock of the tournament. Actually enjoying us this tournament, outstanding overall, having a great time watching it, everybody going for the win and giving it all.

Walcott  game changer

One again Englan exceed my expectations (expected us to lose v France and draw v Sweden) so cannot complain.

Defence is shockingly bad considering it is our "strong" point. Team generally played well but Parker was underwhelming once again, I swear the next **** who says "he plays with his heart on his speeds" I will rip their heart out and stitch it to their sleeve and see if they enjoy it! He didn't tackle well, or pass well, or track well or do his job.. But he has a "lions spirit"

I would to see Milner in his role as they both equally useless at tackling but Milner has better short range passing and at least half a footballing brain.

But despite my minor negative well done England and Hodgson, good job Carrolol as well! :)

Can't believe people are saying Welbeck's goal was a fluke, fantastic bit of improvisation, it's what we all try when a cross is on our back foot, rarely, ok, never comes off for me though

Gerrard's was excellent for the cross for Carroll's goal (although I dont think the header was all that), Walcott was lucky, without any disrespect meant, for his but the pass for Welbeck was brilliant as well as the heeled shot.

Saying all that the back four as a group / line were AWFUL for the goals conceeded, Gerrard gave the ball away far too many times in the middle of the park in dangerous places, Young was practicslly invisble, Johnson and Cole were caught out upfield too many times (by stupid passing), ball control across majority of the team was shocking, I also dont think Hart was as commanding as he should have been (and was caught far too cold/flat footed for my liking for their 2nd goal), and too many free kicks completely wasted

Credit were its due though, Johnson also made some crucial last ditch tackles.

I think the conceeded goals tonight have said goodbye to England topping the group (with Sweden already out, France can have a field day in their last group game, while England have to face Ukraine who still have a good chance of qualifying for the 1/4's).

Agree.

You can tell he meant it, the second he hit it he was turning to check it went in. Good goal no fluke!

The thing I noticed with parker in that game was he seemed to be trying allot more playmaking than i expected he would. Very few times did he just win the ball and give it to gerrard which is what we want xD

With regards to the defending the 1st goal is more or less Youngs fault he played 1/2 the sweedish team on-side.
While I agree our defence was poor it wasn't the goals that worried me it was the amount of counter attacks and chances we gave up.

I hope England go out personally, all it's doing is giving people in this country an excuse to be violent and disgusting. Saw three people with england shirts cheering on the way back from the pub only to chuck their food in someones garden and urinate on garden gates!.

This is a superbly skewed view on pubs :D

You are a blind, blind man. If you think the England football team is the cause then you have a lot to learn, or go out a bit more. I dno.

Superb stuff that. Should be quoted forever.

Moving onto the game.. We always make out difficult don't we? Props to Walcott really, would have lost if it weren't for him simple as. Lots of prOblems though in every aspect. English media saying 'we only need a draw to go through' wrong attitude. Let's beat Ukraine, done.

Have me a headache that game did, felt like city vs qpr.

Typing from my phone is rather difficult excuse tr mistakes

most of that was due to him being out of position to start with, him and cole seem intent on going into the middle of the pitch i wish they'd stay on the wing it just leaves the flanks wide open.

as for wellbecks goal, it was a bit flukey, not to say it wasn't intended but he could try it 100 times and miss it or hit it wrong 99 times, but thats what makes goals like that a bit special.

i think parker is feeling the effect of the injury he carried into the tournament, saw him lose the ball a couple of times and just didnt seem to put in or have the effort to be able to get it back.

agree with the defending at set pieces, really do hope they can sort things out in case they get through the groups.

we need to organise on the edge of the area and Terry needs to make sure he keeps the line level, johnson was way to far behind him for the first goal.

nice goal from walcott, he seems to have been paying attention to the coaching rvp's been giving him at arsenal :D.

Always in the bag

Maybe but you didn't half make it hard for yourselves. Still it's a win and it keeps your chances of qualifying open so there's no point worrying about it too much.

I was watching in a pub last night which was fine but for some reason they decided after the game that Football's Coming Home, Vindaloo and a couple of other England related songs were all that was needed for the rest of the night, either that or they were trying to get everyone to leave as the bar was closed by 11pm.
