I still don't really rate Southgate, but the squad mentality is good and we have a very capable squad in terms of ability and depth.

Italy haven't been that great, you'd think they had been playing like peak Barcelona the way some people are talking. They're good and it won't be easy, but most cup finals aren't straightforward...

As for Italy's qualifying record - I'd argue that's virtually irrelevant, England's record won't be much different.

I would say player wise i'd favor England. I do wonder if the circumstance might get to English players though. Not many of them have played in finals and especially with the expectation of being at Wembley it could be a bit much for them. They seemed to struggle early on on Wednesday before overcoming it and growing into the game, so just have to hope we don't go down early on against Italy.

I'm struggling to decide where to watch it. My current choices are either at home on a nice comfy sofa with the wife, with my own choice of booze and a 65" tv, or going with the neighbours to the local wine bar where there'll be a bit of an atmosphere but their TV is tiny!

There is an amazing outdoor pub with a 4mx2m screen and lots of smaller screens dotted about both indoor and out, but it's 1st come first served and i'm not sure i can cope with trying to defend a table on my own for 6hours before the wife wants to join me before the kickoff!

If itv have McCoist and Tyldesley I may watch that channel. If not it’ll be BBC.
No chance it will be McCoist, they'll put an English co-commentator in.

Regarding UHD, it's a bit risky for me because I don't have a wired connection to the TV and the WiFi is a bit flaky. Might try and give it another test sometime.

I phoned about ten local pubs yesterday. They were either all booked up or weren't showing it.

I'll call back one more today at midday, if that fails it'll be at home with a few beers. Either way I don't mind. I thought about entering the Trafalgar Square ballot but **** that. I've always hated TS for group celebrations/events.

Italy have a 33 game win streak or whatever and almost nobody scores against them. Good luck to England

Yeah, the neighbours have a table for 4 booked at the local place, so we're good on that one.

It's a shame about the whole social distancing really as what i'd really like is a rammed pub and beer flying everywhere! I miss being 18 at Euro 2004 and being in that environment!

Depends what you want, to enjoy the atmosphere or to enjoy the game for itself. One of my favourite memories was England vs Columbia in 1998, packed pub with big screen, freekick goes in and pandemonium breaks out. Make the mistake of going to get some food at half time, couldn't get back in heh and had to find a worse pub to watch it heh.
On the flip side, England vs Germany 2010 at Glastonbury was awful, could barely see the screen, atmosphere not quite what I expected.

To be honest, with current restrictions on tables it changes things a bit - reduced capacity means more chance of seeing the screen, don't have to worry about missing the goals whilst you are getting elbowed at the bar but equally it won't be peak atmosphere.

I'm going to watch it at home, risk free approach and cheap drinks.

I think the hybrid option is watch at home getting drunk then head out immediately after the match if England win, gonna be carnage going on for hours so you then get the best of both worlds, perfect view of the match and get to join in the celebrations, of if England lose at least you are back at home already.

It's actually weird, my favourite football memory is watching Euro 96 at home on my own in front of our old CRT screen. Not in a pub with anyone else.

Second favourite is England v Columbia in the local Wetherspoons in the 2018 World Cup with beer flying around the place - and chairs - and people jumping on tables. Just hilarious.

My fav memories are the England Tunisia match in 1998 when we legged it out of exams to get to a mate's house to watch it. Scholes goal etc. Then England v someone in 2006 in a pub in wales where my vocal england support annoyed the welsh locals. HAHAHA. Euro 1996 I watched mainly at home except for the semi where I was at the vicar's house, and managed to knock the coffee table over when we thought Sol Campbell had scored in extra time. Mopping up drinks for the rest of ET and then driving home rather embarassed and listening to the pens over radio 5.

Off topic but what sub dispenser did you get? :)

BBC commentary is better. Shame the co-commentators are all awful.
This one:-

The SUB | For the ultimate home draught pint | Beerwulf

Mrs said if England got to the final she'd buy me one, true to her word she ordered me the starter pack with 8 mixed subs and the dispenser 10 minutes after fulltime, coming today between 12.44 and 14.44 apparently.

TBH all the commentators are crap, it's just who is less crap than the others really.

Edit : Favourite memory has to be Euro 96, stood outside our local boozer after a game (can't remember which one but it was a Saturday, think they'd just beaten Denmark but honestly can't remember) and the Czech team coach pulled up because they had been playing at Hillsborough and they'd been diverted getting to the M1 because of an accident or something, quite a surreal moment to be honest, can't imagine what was going through the players minds as about 100 ****** up English fans cheering them on

Can't believe the Southgate negativity in this thread. It's like people have forgotten the preceeding 20 years of absolute dross England produced at major tournaments with, supposedly, more talented managers (and a 'golden generation' of players)

Nothing will ever be enough to those fans who want to see us playing free-flowing football, going a couple of goals up early on so they aren't nervous wrecks hiding behind the sofa for pens.

Things would have been way worse if Big Sam didn't get caught out.

Managed to book a table at one of our locals for Sunday, less than five minutes from our flat. Much better than going to Trafalgar Square! They wanted a £50 deposit but we get it back as long as we turn up, so it's all good.
