It's going to be close - could be a very exciting game, as most of these knock out games have been so far - and predictive xG is narrowly in England's favour.

Final ticket scalping is real, 5K!!!

Blimey, that could buy you two graphics cards!

Why did ITV relegate Clive Tyldsley? Sam Matterface is terrible and no where near as interesting or insightful. Probably cost cutting or a contract thing, but yeah, I'll be watching on the channel that doesn't have ads.

Yep, Tyldsley and McCoist are ITVs best combo. Shame that they weren't used for the semi and unlikely to be used for the final.

Will be BBC for me

Nothing will ever be enough to those fans who want to see us playing free-flowing football, going a couple of goals up early on so they aren't nervous wrecks hiding behind the sofa for pens.

Things would have been way worse if Big Sam didn't get caught out.
Free-flowing football is too much to ask then, I guess?

And yeah, the negativity for Southgate mirrors the negativity of his tactics, and is well-deserved.

Venables and Hoddle were both better IMO tactically and with a more exciting style of play. We went out on pens to Germany having had Sol Campbell's(?) goal disallowed and Gazza slowing his run too early and missing that cross in. Hoddle was unlucky in that Beckham got himself sent off. We would have won that game, and continued to the final IMO had that not happened. That wasn't Hoddle's fault. He was a chump with some of the extra-curricular comments and faith healer stuff, which is why they let him go, but the football side he was knowledgable and tactically astute. Where the rot set in was Sven. Big big mistake that one. Then McClaren. Then Fabio, Then Roy, what a turgid and pathetic run that all was. Honestly if we'd kept Terry or Glen for that period we'd have been much better off. So the real issue is actually the FA and the idiots there who thought McClaren et al were a good prospect to begin with. They're so concerned with image and reputation and the like they would ditch a good manager for a more respectable amiable duffer. It's a similar thing to Clough never getting the England job - he was seen as too working class and too blunt in his opinions. Again, huge mistake.
I was thinking of Venables when I said 20 years :D (he's outside the cut-off)

I think you over rate Hoddle a bit. He was the guy that started the 98 world cup with Beckham and Owen on the bench!

Italy haven’t lost in months and months, they’re mentality monsters. I can’t see them losing this one. No doubt there will be more time spent on the floor rolling around screaming in ‘pain’ than actually playing the ball.

England have the pace and youth to get to Italy. If they don't let Italy slow play out of the back, make them play it long (they have no height up top).

Whilst when they have the ball, play it to the wings and make Bonnuci and Chelini (both fairly slow - but good in the air) come out of position - they will win it.

The troll is strong in this one, whilst Sterling I feel did go down easily last game I am usually the 1st person to call out diving and there has definitely been a distinct lack of diving on Englands part this tournament.

Everyone has been at it, Sterling, Mount, Grealish and some Italians. What's more amusing is that everyone says "how disgusting it is", but when it benefits their team...it's all fine and dandy :D

BBC 4k via iplayer is nice looking but for me even with a wired connection it sometimes buffers, plus it's often up to 1 full minute behind. I can't be having spoilers from local neighbours shouting!! So for me it will be the live BBC HD via virgin cable, which even that probably has a tiny delay over direct freeview arial, not sure actually. Might test it!

My prediction...on the basis the tournament has been fantastic up till now, I predict a very defensive, tight final going 0-0 all the way to penalties. I hope this does not happen though!

Owen was 18 and Beckham hadn't long been in the England squad either. We view it as what we know now, back then Owen was largely unheard of to the general public.

Lock it so I don't have to spout my usual garbage during the game :p

Probably for the best as I'll be half cooked by the time the game starts, id get banned/suspended. ;)

how about we open it during half time too, and if it goes to ET. I think the two 45 stretches can be locked without too much trauma.
