UEFA Europa League Final Villarreal v Man Utd ** spoilers ** [Wednesday 26th May 2021]

Bruno Fernandes is the only reason Ole is still in a job. But he's been flogged to death this season and it does feel like his influence dipped in the latter few games, can't rely on him getting United out of trouble all the time.

I think Ole is just about okay enough that he should avoid being sacked

Thats genuinely how it feels most of the time with Ole. Hes like a **** civil servant. You want to fire him but you can't really point at anything specific that he has done wrong. Hes just not very good.

I just find it ridiculous that Emery is being hailed as a genius and Ole a disaster....

Based on a game that came down to two goal keepers taking penalties against each other.

Did we have some game changer quality players sat on the bench I don't know about, like suddenly James and Fred are going to save the day? Did Ole instruct Lindelof to switch his brain off again?

With a far superior squad we struggled to even create any chances in 120 mins, and Ole didn't try and change anything. It's really very simple.

You didn’t need game changers you needed legs. ET was a write off, that’s 30 minutes he could’ve freshened it up instead he wants to try and be a genius and bring on players just to take a penalty. Garbage management.

People blaming Ole for our keeper not scoring a penalty? People need to get a grip....
Nobody's blaming him for that. The buck stops with him because he hasn't been bold enough to try and win that match.
I'm glad the season is over because I'm tired of this rubbish from United. I think the manager made some poor calls. Rashford was Gashford almost all night. All of us could see it but not Ole. He's been out thought by Emery. Very disappointed

Sorry, you have a substantially better squad than Villareal player for player. He was utterly out thought tonight. It's that simple.

Because Emery has a team of rejects and nobodys for the most part and you could see exactly how they had been set up and coached to play. It might not have been pretty but it was there to be seen. Ole did nothing to affect the game.

Honestly, the work in the last 2.5 seasons is what this is the culmination of. Ole still doesn't have a plan most of the time if the opposition doesn't show their belly and we still look completely disjointed and ineffectual 80% of the time.

You do know that almost no football matches are won on penalties. Ole had 120 minutes to win the game.

Amad, Mata, James... anyone to replace the clearly knackered players on the pitch. Just doing something would have been nice.

I've got a feeling that Purdy wasn't being very sincere with his post ;)

But the issue was that it came down to two keepers taking pens. Given the squads at each managers disposal, Utd should have been winning that game easily.

You mention not having game changing subs but the options available to Ole were better than what was available for Emery (from the start and the bench) and yet when the game was getting away from Villarreal, Emery made changes that brought them back into the game. It wasn't just tactical changes that Utd were crying out for but simply to have some fresh legs on the pitch. So many Utd players were dead on their feet towards the end of the 90 and Villarreal had half a side of fresh legs.

In the end that game was decided by a manager who didn't have the bottle to make the big decision about the goal keeper. Even bringing on Henderson late on would have been a good decision. De Gea , not saved a single pen since 2016, Henderson 6. The top managers would have made that call towards the end of the game.

This was actually a great example of what managers can do.

He wasn't exactly bringing on world beaters, but he was bringing on fresh players in the right places at the right time, and Villareal ended up looking the better side in extra time.
