UEFA Europa League Final Villarreal v Man Utd ** spoilers ** [Wednesday 26th May 2021]

In the end that game was decided by a manager who didn't have the bottle to make the big decision about the goal keeper. Even bringing on Henderson late on would have been a good decision. De Gea , not saved a single pen since 2016, Henderson 6. The top managers would have made that call towards the end of the game.
That game shouldn't have gone to penalties. United should have easily had too much for Villareal and that's no disrespect to them. We are a very expensively assembled team that has not delivered in the clutch moments. The manager has showed he is short at the top level. We dominated the game but ran out of legs and didn't keep them guessing. He'll regret it.

Zidane is basically a better Ole.

I want Simeone but I can't see it happening, let him loose.

We don't have the players for Simeone and he would probably just end up like Mourinho. I still don't think Mourinho is a bad manager, I just think he hasn't evolved with the times. He was successful when players egos didn't run teams and when your players would do what they were told for fear of being dropped and sold. These days managers have to be babysitters as much as managers and coaches.

Thats genuinely how it feels most of the time with Ole. Hes like a **** civil servant. You want to fire him but you can't really point at anything specific that he has done wrong. Hes just not very good.
I was pondering to myself earlier, Ole has been in the post a long time without winning anything. I tried to think of a manager who'd also failed to land a trophy, checked Moyes and he won the CS. So I then thought hmm, it must be going back a ways. And I looked up the history of Man Utd managers.

Ole has been in the post since 2018, winning nothing.

The last permanent Man Utd manager who didn't win anything, and was in place for more than 18 months when they left, was Walter Crickmer. And that's hardly fair, because he was manager during WWII so only got 76 games in charge, half what Ole has.

So in summation, whilst I think he's done a decent job in a competitive environment, he's stuck around a remarkably long time without winning anything, if he was at Chelsea he'd probably be out of a job by now.

God no, why would you want him? Atletico may have won but they play the most dire, negative football around. I'd rather We at least try to play good football than go for another Mourinho.

Forget Simeone then, just an average manager would be a start. However, history will remember what you win, not how you win it, we're drifting and are just like Arsenal/Spurs now. People have accepted it.

Tragic.

Honestly, I like Ole and he has been good in plenty of areas. Unfortunately those areas are probably the easiest things to be good at and he has been very sub par in the hard areas. The best managers get the most from their players and create a style of play that results in a team which is more than the sum of its parts. We are the complete opposite. We are a team that only plays at 60% of the level our players should be capable of. This team with a few years under Klopp or Pep would be twice as good.

He is the only manager that has beaten pep more times that pep has beaten him.

It really comes down to being able to break down teams that park the bus. This is what Liverpool and City have that special skill that can win you these games. He has had plenty of time now to crack that but has failed.

I think next season is going to be a nightmare as Pogba will not extend his contract and Ole will not be backed in the summer. Feel a bit for Bruno as he is a caliber of player that deserves to win trophies year in year out.

You're completely undervaluing what Ole has got right. If it's so easy then why did much more decorated managers like Van Gaal and Mourinho fail at it? The way you talk it's as if we finished midtable this season. We've had our best league season since Fergie retired. There are huge question marks whether he can ever take us to the next level but it's silly to dismiss what he has achieved.

We have caught City at good times this season and they are the perfect team for us when they are not “on it”. They play high up the pitch and leave space and that’s when we actually look half decent.

Its not a special skill, its coaching. It’s why Leeds are good to watch. They don’t have the best players but Bielsa has even their team playing far more cohesive and fluid football than us. I would take Bielsa in a heartbeat. He would probably quit for some mad reason but you can’t argue that he isn’t a good manager when he’s happy and it’s working out.

One game a year against City doesn't make a season, squad or manager. You can't point to that and say look he has the ability... It more screams that the players decide to put in that extra effort Vs city than it says anything about Ole.

You're a fan of Ole and have loyalty to a legend, but he has no ability to lead at the top and no coaching ability.

None of the players have any idea why they lose... Rashford saying now, we just need to come back with more desire... That's not it mate

Because it’s hard to do the hard stuff while maintaining the easy stuff. It’s easy to not discipline your children, it’s easy to be their mate but ultimately it doesn’t result in happy successful adults.

Being nice to everyone, creating a nice work environment isn’t hard. Doing it while running a successful, competitive business in a cutthroat world is hard.

Thats what I mean about Ole doing the easy stuff and not the hard stuff. Doing the hard stuff well makes it harder to do the easy stuff well.

Not sure he achieved all that much. Bumbled his way to 2nd, while Leicester, Liverpool(for half a season) and Chelsea imploded, lost a cup final.

4-1 to united. Easy canter to victory. I don't see anything to worry about. Win this and extension to Oles contract.

Cannot see anything other than a comfortable Utd win, Villareal really aren't that good a team and Utd have beaten much better teams over the course of this season (but have also lost to worse teams as well I guess).

rotflmao at these comments :D

Total redemption for Unai Emery tonight

Didn't Mourinho win the league cup and Europa League, and finish second? If that's a failure then why is Ole not?

Not in the same season but yes, he did. He won the two cups and finished 6th(?) in his first season and then finished 2nd, with more points than Ole, in his last.

So in other words, both of Mourinho's seasons at the club were better than both of Ole's. Just trying to get my head around why Shami said Mourinho failed while not appearing to consider Ole to be doing so...
