look at the cold war- at the cuban missile crisis, we came to the very edge of wiping ourselves out and it wouldn't have taken much in the way of extra agressive tendancies on both sides to start a war that would have ended us.

to get interplanetary costs a lot of money, and we would need to work together as a planet to acheive the common goal of building massive spacecraft to go out and reach the stars, now considering we can't even keep an area the size of europe united to one common goal we're going to struggle uniting the entire planet.

perhaps the other stuff you're referring to concerned stuff they do know about - i.e. experimental aircraft etc.. which they have good reason to conceal... however the idea of wanting to cover stuff up when they don't know is rather flawed

Read my edited post above where I clarify I am talking historically. This case is unusual in that the Pentagon has released information on a fairly recent event. Normally information only comes out via FOI requests and is heavily redacted.

wel that doesn't really change much re: the premise "they don't want to say and don't know what they are" as this event simply contradicts it

like I said perhaps there are other reasons why things have been withheld in the past

Yes this event sets a new president for sure.

We have cases like this one in the past and they did not come out to the public with it. They kept quiet and studied the info internally, with the conclusion that although there seemed to be something physical it could not be explained. Then it came to light via FOI.

As I said this could be quite easily explained by the cold war and the fact sensitive locations and information were involved. However it would have been possible to present the info to the public in a sanitised way as they have done this time, but they didn't.
 
20-25 years ago, such news could have made to headlines, and everyone been positive about it.

Today, there is cynicism and negativity everywhere about this.

Where is the hard evidence? This aliens visiting Earth thing is no different to ghost stories or religious crap. No hard evidence, just hearsay and conspiracy nuts muddying the waters. Put me in a room with an alien and I'll believe but till then I'm sticking to Fox Mulder. At least Fox Mulder has the grace to be patently fiction and exists for our entertainment. Fiction trying to be fact is pernicious, hence threads like this on the internet.

The subject of the thread is UFO footage, you do realise UFO doesn't necessarily mean "aliens" right? I mentioned Aliens in the OP in jest and tried to make that rather clear with a :D smiley...

People may have mentioned aliens but that isn't the purpose of the thread.

Well your criticism of the thread re: the thread being fiction/Aliens makes very little sense... the thread is about a factual event. Perhaps you should be a bit clearer with what you're referring to, if individual posts then refer to them. If you end up being hostile because you don't like being questioned then that is your own issue you perhaps ought to deal with.
