UK Gladiators - 2024 reboot

I liked it, Beckett and Taylor were both funny. I think people massively underestimate how fit the regular competitors are. It's more than a bit of crossfit. It was a bit of fun and I've got huge respect for them for giving it a go, especially Louise.

I just caught up with yesterday's celeb special. A few things I've noticed:

Gauntlet is now back to 5 zones. This is good because that's how it used to be back in the 1990s.

There are (more?) camera shots from police style body-cams so you can see a POV of what the contenders are doing.

The 1st rope climb in the Eliminator is knotted so to make it easier for the celebs, and the monkey bars got replaced by a bridge.

In the series II (2025) trailer at the end of this episode, it shows that the Atlaspheres event is back! I think I'm safe to say this without spoiler tags as it should be in teaser videos by now.

I quite enjoyed this special. When I saw Louise, I thought for a moment that she was Louise from the girl band Eternal as she would have been in her 20s when in Eternal 30 years ago which fitted right for me. However, I looked her up afterwards and she's the TV presenter from BBC Breakfast.

If memory serves, 1990s Gladiators did a special on police / armed forces vs the glads. That would be a good one to bring back.

Louise Nurding (now Redknapp) is 50

She was so hot in the 90s, but ruined her face a bit with procedures of some sort. It's a shame that women often feel they can't grow old gracefully.

Weakest Link tonight at 7:35pm is a Gladiators special. Time to find out if they are thick or not. :D
Edit - Athena was also on Celebrity Mastermind and they made her wear the outfit while everyone else had normal clothes:

Good opening episode for the new series, except that my TV kept receiving bluetooth requests from "PS-LX310BT". Google says it's a Sony turntable which I don't have. Requests therefore probably coming from a neighbour but not sure if it's deliberate or if it's a glitch?

It was good to see Atlaspheres back. Scoring pods are now floor CGI animations rather than smoke pods, otherwise it's pretty akin to the original. New glads for this season are Cyclone (female) and Hammer (male) although they weren't on tonight. Nitro made a brief appearance to say he won't be in this series due to an injury which is a shame.

I cant enjoy it as much as I'd like to with it being Bradley Walsh and his son presenting, id much rather a different pair or at least not both of the same family. Nothing against them but its just... odd for me.

I wish they played it straight and let the Gladiators be funny and express their personalities a bit. I get a bit tired of Brad always having to one-up everyone.

Great first episode though. Both the winners look like real contenders for the series title, especially the guy: he made the other bloke look very ordinary, but I think he was just really good. Thankfully, looks like the Gladiators have been practicing a bit, they started the first series a bit undercooked.

Nathan did a great job against Giant on Duel. It's almost like a death sentence being paired with him!

Bradley and Barney are dross, hoped they'd replace but sadly not.

Does anyone else's kids turn into gladiators while watching? I can't stop mine from wrestling all over the place while it's on and for a good 30 minutes after

Has Atlaspheres been toned down a bit (probably Health and Safety) or just rose tinted glasses?

Seemed like the spheres were a lot harder to move, skidded a lot more on the floor without really going anywhere, and never seemed to pick up the same sort of momentum as I remembered

Yep, smaller play area, no grip, virtual scoring spots rather than the old physical ones (and quite generous scoring too). It was cool, but the slipping needs to be sorted

As I remember it the hard part of the spheres before was that the sphere had to really come to a complete stop on top of the little scoring pyramid thing... and until it did it wasn't too difficult to get knocked off again. As you say, generous - this one you just had to roll kind of vaguely near the pyramid top and it scored

It needed more Sabre.
I hate to say it but she's sort of starting to gross me out a bit. The old glam glads were at least classy, Sabre unfortunately seems to be really turning up things up in the other direction and I declare, I do not dig. After seeing her on duel again I think I might be Diamond gang. I'll make sure to provide regular updates on my status.
