UK Government set to ban disposable vapes

I would only sell the disposable vapes in shops that sell tobacco products and shops dedicated to vaping. Not sweet shops. Not Poundland. With dedicated vaping shops, my friend was in one and 3 kids tried to come in and one of the workers said "you need to be 18" to them and they left.

Plus get rid of the colourful packaging. Some vapes I have seen are black with different coloured writing on them to match the flavour. That would be acceptable. Another acceptable way - again seen the vapes whilst wombling - a simple symbol(s) of flavours.

This has just crossed my mind as well, mental how basically anywhere can them when tobacco licensing is so strict!

Well duh lol. I can't believe it's taking the government so long to catch up with the obvious waste and obvious youth issues....

And I thought people wanted to save the planet but are indoctrinated into believing these are better. If society is anything to go by there'll be no sustainable planet capable of supporting current life in a couple of hundred years anyway.

Total Recall was ambitious at saying that was life on Mars when in reality it'll be life on Earth...

The planet will be fine, she's been through worse and come out the other side, it's humans that won't be. Probably for the better tbh...

The only argument I don't like is saying about the flavours, like adults cant like fruity flavours etc. The marketing of them is sketchy as hell though.

About bloody time.

The gov seriously lacks in common sense though, they try to reduce kids smoking by banning cigarettes but not anything else, scummy tobacco companies will always be doing their upmost to get kids to smoke one way or another, marketing blight coloured vapes with certain flavours aimed at kids is disgusting.
Ban the whole thing (tobacco, vapes, anything that can be inhaled that is not medicinal) from a certain age or the problem will continue to persist.

Good, disgusting things that leach harmful chemicals into the earth. The not-very-subtle targeting of kids is outrageous as well.

It's crazy to me that disposable vapes weren't banned ages ago, better late than never I suppose. Restrictions on flavours, targetting kids, and proper manufacturing standards and controls all good things; but I'm not a fan of this progressively raising the age at which you can smoke tobacco at all. Regular smoking is a massive health issue - although public bans, etc. have made it much less of one - but there's nowt wrong in enjoying the odd cigar or pipe for those that wish.

In Europe you pay a deposit for every plastic / glass bottle you purchase. If you throw it away, you lose the deposit. So most people return their stuff to the stores and get the money refunded off their shopping. Those that do get thrown away are usually picked up by homeless folks, resulting in much cleaner streets.

In some European countries.

We had a deposit scheme in the UK when I was a child, insanity that it was dropped in the first place, and even worse that it's not been revived.

The problem I've seen is that the kids of say 14-16 are able to walst into a corner shop and buy these.

I watched my niece do it. when she was 15.

Quite why our useless gov haven't implemented this here is a mystery, must have shares in waste disposal or something.
It would be so easy. And if your gucci enough not to care, you toss it on the sweet. Side homeless person can benefit.

But yeah. Why they haven't I have no idea. Put it in everything to be honest

I'm no Greta fan, far from it, but I agree that most disposable items are a waste e.g. single-use torches, and in particular, tents being dumped at Glastonbury!

Banning disposable vapes from kids though won't have any effect. They'll find ways around it, so bit of a straw man argument. Half of the kids in my school smoked.

Good, definitely need to ban them.

I haven't researched it in detail, but I expect that vaping also causes cancer, as you are putting unnatural molecules into the body. A ban will therefore help save on NHS treatment costs as well.

Vaping probably is mildly carcinogenic - with the inclusion of some flavourings being substantially more harmful than neutral vapes - but, overall, the impact of vaping on cancer is almost certainly to hugely reduce cancer rates. Why? Because vaping is very, very likely to be less carcinogenic than smoking and vapes displace a substantial amount of smoking.

The DRS is coming back for plastic bottles, it's just been so poorly thought out as usual that it keeps being delayed because the government can't tell the retailers exactly what's expected of them.

We've had people working on implementing it at work for at least the last 2 years.

There is nothing "good" about vaping. It is a pointless activity and is almost certainly carcinogenic. Both smoking and vaping are pointless, addictive activities that cause unnecessary waste and litter, waste time and for smoking seriously damage health, for vaping, it's very likely to damage health, although time will show the extent.

People should be steered strongly away from both smoking and vaping, and vaping should not be seen as "beneficial", there has been a lot of cynical marketing around this. Also, a lot of young people are starting with vaping, so it's not really helping to reduce nicotine addiction.

Vaping is an insidious scourge on young people, and a terrible invention. People should find something better to do with their time.
