I assume you already know it but they don't have to have a nuclear warhead - conventional explosive multi warhead variants can deliver a payload with something like 150x the explosive power of the atomic bombs used against Japan.

2000 Kt conventional warhead on an ICBM - impressive.

Oops mixed things up a bit there - the nuclear payloads are about that.

Don't even know if Russia has non-conventional warheads tho claimed to be working on it a few years back.

EDIT: Looks like the biggest known non-nuclear ICBM payload has an equivalence of 0.00000071875x the power of the bombs dropped on Japan lol.

Closer to the city of Donetsk itself on Wednesday, Ukrainian security forces said a column of 100 vehicles had been seen travelling in a southerly direction from Starobesheve to Telmanove.

These vehicles, which included tanks, armoured troop carriers, Grad multiple and rocket launchers systems, were marked only with "white circles or triangles", the Anti-Terrorist Operation press centre said.

An unnamed Ukrainian defence source told AFP news agency that the vehicles had to be Russian.

They love a rocket launcher in that part of the world don't they?

I really wish the government would speak up on this issue a bit more, Russia is invading Ukraine yet western leaders remain quite. While I'll accept the bigger picture it would be good know how far the EU is willing to put up with Russia's behavior before they start imposing sanctions on Russia's oil and gas or send a peacekeepers to the region to restore order.

It isn't tho, is it. That's the western viewpoint.

Don't you think that there genuinely are people in Eastern Ukraine who want to join Russia? You don't?

Experts have apparently confirmed the presence of a modern Russian tank which is not known to be exported and only currently used by the Russian army

Puts a big hole in Russia's and the seperatists claims that they are using seized Ukrainian equipment. Also another article where the seperatists acknowledge that there are thousands of Russians fighting but these are "retired" or "on leave" soldiers there by their own choice..

Independent reporters in Russia are reporting unmarked helicopters landing in Russia bearing wounded troops and column of APCs returning across the border. Coupled with the other news (couple of snaps below) it does appear as if Russia is pushing things along significantly.

A member of Russian President Vladimir Putin's advisory council on human rights, Ella Polyakova, says she believes Russia is carrying out an invasion of Ukraine.

"When masses of people, under commanders' orders, on tanks and troop carriers, and with the use of heavy weapons, [are] on the territory of another country and cross the border, I consider this an invasion," Ms Polyakova told Reuters.

Edgars Rinkevics, Latvia's minister of foreign affairs tweets: Russian invasion in Ukraine must be considered by the UN Security Council as act of aggression, UN must react accordingly, this is war

Sounds like it's about to kick off.

I know that Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania aren't too fond of Russia, but Latvia seems to be taking this one step further by calling for war.

Belarus/Lithuania/Latvia/Estonia will be paying close attention, with the exception of Lithuania they all share a border with Russia and this happening on their doorsteps will be setting off alarm bells.

"The UK ambassador to the UN, Mark Lyall Grant, tells reporters that "it's very clear that Russian regular troops are now in Ukraine".

Russia will be asked to explain itself at Thursday's UN Security Council meeting, he adds."

LOL!

UN: Explain yourself?
Russia: "There are no Russian Troops.."
UN: "Oh alright then"

I guess so... tho most russian troops in ukraine/independent states are volunteers

According to the seperatists..

According to most of the rest of the world, including Russian commentators the regular army is operating within the Ukrainian border. Cases in point:

"The head of the Russian Union of Committees of Soldiers' Mothers, Valentina Melnikova, tells the Russian RBK business newspaper that 250 conscripts from the Ryazan commando division have been forced to sign contracts for the purpose of sending them to Ukraine next week."

"Carl Bildt, Swedish foreign minister The major concern is of course that it does represent a very significant escalation, where we now see regular units of the Russian armed forces fighting inside eastern Ukraine.

We've seen them supporting separatists and supplying weapons and taking in tanks and whatever for quite some time, including sophisticated surface-to-air missile systems, but for some time we are now as certain as we can be that there are regular Russian forces fighting against regular Ukrainian forces in Ukraine - that's very serious. "

Russian reporters have been reporting that there's been a huge increase in numbers of Russian soldiers killed and seriously injured in "training accidents". At least the Ukrainians are giving a good account of themselves. Will be interesting to see what the west does now that it's undeniable that Russia is carrying out an invasion.

well in short NOTHING.

this is taken from the bbc live feed.

17:39: "We made it clear in March this year that if there were a further escalation, more sanctions would have to be discussed," Angela Merkel says.
17:39: German Chancellor Angela Merkel says she will discuss the possibility of further sanctions on Russia at an EU summit on Saturday - Reuters.

seems more talks of possible sanctions, may as well just tell putin to take anything he wants.
