have they though, or are blaming Crimean citizens with a view to having their own revolution on the new Ukrainian government ?

Putin has given full go ahead, you can say invasion of Ukraine is under-way, although all is happening is that Russian forces will block out and protect Crimea from any Ukranian aggression untill referendum happens.

I doubt there will be any direct conflict between Russian or Ukrainian armies though.

Just shows again really, Putin got some massive balls and dont care about what the west says... Probably the only politician today to have that status.

Ukraine's revolutionaries have themselves to blame- one of the very first laws that they've passed was removal of russian language as second state language. With nearly half of ukraine speaking russian, this was oil into Putin's "extremists and fascists" propaganda fire. Now Russian parts of Ukraine are rebelling.

The interim Ukraine government bought this on themselves.

You don't take control of the country and them immediately repeal or start passing laws on use of the Russian language. Especially without making exceptions for an autonomous state almost entirely populated by Russian speakers.

If they were being smart about it, they should have re-assured the Russian majority in Crimea, and Russians elsewhere in the country they would be protected.

You think invasions are decided based on official language rules? Don't be silly.

The trigger of the invasion was Yanukovych losing power. Russia started the "military exercies" one or two days later.

So armed groups sent by the national government in Kiev tried to take over key buildings in Crimea, so the Crimean authorities asked Putin to send troops in to help. While it's been approved by the Russian parliament, Putin still hasn't given the go ahead to send in the troops.

What are the current government in Ukraine playing at?

Erm - none of that happened. The armed groups that took over key buildings in Crimea were elite Russian troops (who removed all their identifying insignia). Basically there's no evidence that ethnic Russians were under any sort of threat from the new government in Kiev, and the Crimean authorities are probably Yanukovych/Putin puppets anyway.

They also passed a law to remove all soviet monuments a.k.a Lenin statues.

Kind of stupid in my eyes, they were the ones who provoked this division... I am sure if they took more non-biased stance, things could have worked out differently and the Russians who saw the conflict could have been fueled by this and over-threw Putin in coming years in Russia.

All we got now is that the Russians possibly think that if they try to overthrow Putin, all they will get is a western puppet who will impose nationalistic ideals.

Very silly move for us in the west I believe... If we handled the Situation well, we could`ve saw Putin out of power in next few years... All we did is to concrete him in power.

Crowds with russian flags. The law alienated Russian population of Ukraine and created popular support for the invasion.

It was stupid, stupid mistake to make by the rebels.

It's amazing how the Putin fanbois will justify any brutality by Russia because the oppressed force "brought it on themselves".

- Pussy Riot brought it on themselves
- Alexander Litvinenko brought it on himself
- That female journalist who got beaten up and then killed later on brought it on herself
- Georgia brought it on itself.
- The gays brought it on themselves.

Not justifying Putin, only saying that invasion would not have been possible without popular support that was gained by Putin's propaganda, but ALSO, crucially, by the removal of russina language law by the rebels. It was completely uncalled for.

Rebels? The Ukrainian Parliament consists of rebels? Also, did you not read what I said? Russian flags had nothing to do with it, the decision was made when the Russian army was first mobilised, one or two days after Yanukovych fled.

Why should he he knows most of europe wants his gas

I wish people would stop overplaying Russia's hand on this issue. Yes Russia supplies gas to Europe, and in return Europe sends shed loads of cash back to Russia. If the gas stops then the money stops and that impacts Russia's already ailing economy. It's spring now, demand for gas will become less as the weather warms. Now is the time to start looking for alternative sources of gas and to begin the process of imposing sanctions on Russia, including not buying their gas.

The language law was also repelled one or two days after Yanukovich fled. Ukrainian parliament are technically speaking rebels, my sympathy is with them, not some corrupt scum etc. But mistake was made by this new parliament, no denying. Without popular support and crowds of people waving Russian flags, mobilisation of the army would not have led to anything.

I think it's kind of an interesting situation... isn't Putin essentially playing a big game of chicken with the rest of the world?

I mean this is a literal invasion of a sovereign nation, yet there's absolutely nothing that can be done about it. Russia will get away with this completely, because the threat of nuclear war is too large for any other country including the US to get involved. All America will do is sit on the sidelines screaming "Stop or else!"...

Seems that while nuclear bombs exist any country with a significant supply of them can invade any territory with little risk of repercussions.

What nonsense are you talking about.

The question now is, how did she predict it? Why did she even mention it? There is no reason why she could possibly know this unless she knew something in advance that no one else did.

So how would she know that? Are the links to western financed political backing of the protesters real? Just like what they tried to do during the Russian elections? Like they were in Syria, in Egypt (look at how this turned out for the locals, not discounting our actual invasions of other countries and causing internal destruction.)

Russia and Putin might be corrupt, but so is the west. Anyone who honestly doesn't see this after looking at recent world history is wilfully blind. There is nothing going on in Ukraine at the moment that the west doesn't want... except Putin.

Interesting that you find this funny. I bet the Ukrainians don't, while they watch their country as it gets invaded a week after they were gunned down in the streets.

Oh dear, resorting to accusations of having a second account, you're getting truly desperate now. I trust a mod will check and confirm that Zethor and I are different people. It must really gall you that everything I've predicted in this thread has turned out to be accurate.

Still think that Russia is acting entirely within its agreement with over Black Sea Fleet bases in Crimea?

She probably looked out the window in her house in Alaska and saw Russian troops preparing to invade Ukraine.

@areksnumbr1sxylady - this is a joke.
