"SERIOUSLY did u not hear us!! IF you step over THIS line there will be a CONSEQUENCES!"

That line will be probably stepped over within a few days and more posturing from USA and etc.

I mean come on, what are we gonna do? Start World war 3 over Ukraine? Economic sanctions or what ever else thrown on Russia? What the hells that gonna do ahaha.

Let not forget they hold a major trump card of being able to turn the gas off to us European's. **** all will happen, just a bunch of chest beating resulting in Putin doing what he wants anyways.

wow, that kicked off quickly.

Wonder what White Houses response will be now?

More strong words I expect.

Someone was joking on twitter yesterday that the difference between Obama and Putin is that Obama is all talk no action, Putin doesn't talk he just does.

Another potentially serious escalation is that back in the 2012 US Presidential elections, Sarah Palin of all people predicted Russia would invade the Ukraine if Obama was re-elected. That's all we need right now is more ammunition for the Tea Party radicals in the US.

Edit: forgot about our ultimate sanction. If Putin ignores our final, final warning we will ... boycott the G8 summit being held in Russia. That'll show him whose boss.

Possibly mistaken but i'm sure it was mentioned by the BBC yesterday that the US and UK are both bound by a treaty to physically defend Ukrainian rights if its territory was invaded?

Can't remember the name of the treaty, but there was certainly something.

As unfortunate to those caught in the middle, a strong Russia as possibly needed to keep the USA in check. Of course, the reverse is true as well. As long as each country remains strong, I think neither of them will push the other into action.

It is in nobody's interests to have a single superpower.

However, what do I know? I don't even know the name of the shooty things they have...

Sort of but not really, there is the Budapest Memorandum which Russia have likely now violated but it doesn't obligate us to protecting Ukraine per se.

Why would we want to sign something about a country that is nothing to do with us?

But the Prime Minister of Crimea has asked for Russian military help...

But the Prime Minister of Crimea has asked for Russian military help...

I've read this on the news and don't fully understand this ?

Is this because Crimea fears a similar revolution from Anti Russians as has happened in Ukraine ?

Are the people of Crimea actively wanting a revolution, or is this just political noise making to give Russia an excuse to invade Ukraine ?

And i'm guessing the russian invasion of Ukraine that is being talked about is to ensure that any new Regime that is elected will be a pro Russian one. ?

Well the majority of Crimea's population are ethnic Russians.

Frankly Crimea probably should break away... if the majority of the population is Russian anyway why should they be ruled by Kiev... the region was given away in 1954... its hardly a long history - these people basically are Russians.

While Russia was in the wrong re: Kosovo and Chechnya I think they were roughly on the right side in the Georgian conflict and with Ukraine (at least as far as Crimea is concerned).... If they stay in that region and it breaks away then fair enough.... if they start encroaching into other parts of the Ukraine then that's another matter entirely.

So armed groups sent by the national government in Kiev tried to take over key buildings in Crimea, so the Crimean authorities asked Putin to send troops in to help. While it's been approved by the Russian parliament, Putin still hasn't given the go ahead to send in the troops.

What are the current government in Ukraine playing at?

have they though, or are blaming Crimean citizens with a view to having their own revolution on the new Ukrainian government ?

Basically, Crimea is part of Russia that was put under the control of the Ukrainian authorities back in the USSR days, after the fall of the USSR it was never given back, as a result of that Crimea is a state of the Ukraine inhabited almost entirely by people who consider themselves Russian.

These people want nothing to do with the new pro-EU Ukrainian government (which Crimea does not recognise) and their parliament (it is an antonymous state) has scheduled a referendum on independence for the end of the month (was May but they moved it forwards amidst Ukrainian threats).

It now appears their prime minister has asked Russia for help over fears to their sovereignty from imminent Ukrainian aggression. (they believe the new Ukrainian government would like nothing better than to use it's military to crush the Crimean defence force and take control of the state, stopping any hopes of independence from the Ukraine).
