Even if Putin does use the 9th to declare war and mobilise, it's going to take months to put recruits through whatever basic training Russia has and there's the greater issue of morale which by all reports is absolutely terrible, so I wonder how things will go down in terms of getting the population in the right mood for war, I think that is probably more scary because it's not like Russia doesn't have history of killing their own citizens in order for propaganda and war promotion

At this rate there will just be a set of grooves where the runway at Rzeszow used to be... Pentagon update was 12 flights in 24 hours but seems to be way more than that already.

Lol

Part of me thinks that the US is secretly loving this situation. They get to make a real mess of their arch nemesis entirely by proxy, whilst the rest of the world supports them, without putting any US troops into theatre.

If Russia was training the IRA during "The Troubles" and giving them modern weaponry to the tune of billions of pounds, would England not consider their forces were not getting involved? NATO is involved up to their eye teeth, sans putting boots on the ground and Russia knows it of course, plus all the financial pressure layered upon them. "All that is happening" sounds minor, it's as major as the west can make it short of an all out war, don't kid yourself or anyone else, they're teetering on the edge of this blowing up beyond control.
Remind me about Korea or Vietnam or Afghanistan again......

Explain how the west doing what Russia had been doing on a larger scale than we are militarily ie actually sending thier fighter pilots in to fight US in Korea or training fighter pilots up and spetznaz and AA batteries manned by russian troops during Vietnam ,will leave us teetering.
Afghanistan they payed the Taliban to kill allied troops ...

Perhaps read up on past conflicts.

In the US, people were publicly collecting for the IRA. It was a major source of their funding.
To me it seems most Americans think they have Catholic Irish ancestors, bizzare.

Pretty sure the vast majority of emigration from Ireland to the US came from protestants.

Please read up on bounties.

We can expect forces fighting against various NATO backed countries to receive copious Russian arms for the next 50 years and not act surprised.

The US for a long time haven't been too concerned with Russia, they're deemed more of a European problem of course. That and they're "filthy commies" plays into their darling patriotic vitriol. China is their real nemesis, set to surpass them as the new superpower unless they can play their cards right.

Shouldn't we be starting to see the effects of Nato munitions arriving into the east by now
Weapons are getting there but most of of gear were now sending requires extensive training (2 to 3 weeks at least) some weapons requires servicing and maintenance before it's sent. For example Australia have sent 20 Bushmasters to Ukraine which was announced 3 weeks ago, they have only now just started receiving them and been able to train on them.

There are other challenges as well such getting these weapon systems in place under the Russian noses. Over the last week the Russians have been targeting key rail hubs and sections of track (points) making it harder for Ukraine to move it's army around.

Personally I have never considered the cold war as over. Got a little warmer in that the citizens of each were able to travel and communicate. As far as government levels go. Russia as the state taking on the reigns of the USSR has always been a pariah. Apart from a period in the late eighties and early nineties of the last century, the world superpower, the USA, and Russia have set themselves up in contention. It could only ever end in this way.
Filthy commies is a Korean and Vietnam war theme, Russians are not commies any more. The leadership is fascist oligarchical and the command economy is returning. Everything dictated from the centre. War is brutal but it appears that Russian corps are more brutal than most which helps drive the narrative and garner support against them.

The West fluffed it's chance to rehabilitate Russia. We let the proud USSR turn into an utterly collapsed Russia. Whilst Putin's crimes are Putin's crimes we have squandered lots of opportunities to bring them within the fold. I don't think historians will be very kind to the Western leaders of the 90's through 10's.

Yep, it's bonkers when you think the USA could feed the west and still do the same in the Pacific.

Mass warfare is pretty pointless these days, yes you need boots on the ground but the logistics to support hold and move forward is bonkers.

This doesn't give you any sense on just how hard the fighting is in the Donbass area. My brother in law has come out of retirement to serve Ukrainian army as an officer was telling us he was seeing a lot Ukrainian casualties were their fighting tooth and nail to hold back the Russians.

The Russians have paper thin morale, any counter attacks with existing Ukrainian artillery typically sees Russians packing. The sooner we get those howitzers deployed the better.

This is a good point and is yet another echo between the rise of Nazi Germany and Putin's Russia.

Nonsense Russia has only itself to blame the KGB never went away it's the same old boys club. You can't break 100 years of thinking in 10 years.

Putin is going to leave power vacuum when he goes you think it's bad now....
